VALDOSTA —
The way men get a haircut in Valdosta is about to change, and in a drastic way.
A nationally-recognizable franchise since 1995, Sports Clips, which describes itself as a “place that makes it good to be a guy,” is preparing to open its newest franchise in Valdosta. Located in the shopping center in front of Valdosta Cinemas on Baytree Road, Sports Clips will open its doors to the public July 20.
“What’s better than being in a relaxing environment, where sports are on TV everywhere you look, with well-trained stylists and no need for an appointment when it’s time for a haircut?,” asked Bobby Yarbrough, Team Leader for the new Sports Clips franchise in Valdosta.
Televisions everywhere you look? Yarbrough wasn’t kidding.
When customers walk into the doors of the newly-designed Sports Clips, they’ll be greeted by a 62-inch flat-screen TV, which sits on the wall in front of three rows of comfortable bleacher-style seats, which serve as the waiting room seating.
Through an arch way sits eight chairs for haircuts, with four 32-inch flat-screen TVs sitting on the wall tuned into sports 24/7. Lockers sit along the walls of the hair cuttery that hold various equipment and vacuums, which will be used to clean up the hair.
“Those are just a few reasons why we know Sports Clips will be a hit for guys here in Valdosta,” Yarbrough said.
The other reasons can be found in the services offered, which range from the basic haircut to the full MVP Experience — a precision haircut, massaging shampoo, hot steamed towel treatments, and neck and shoulder massage.
“It is exciting to open our doors and let people come in and experience it for themselves,” Yarbrough said. “The Sports Clips concept continues to grow as a hair care option for guys, a great place for stylists to work and as a franchise business investment opportunity. We’re glad to be a part of it.”
Yarbrough said that along with the TVs and the Fatheads that fills various walls — Matthew Stafford and Kobe Bryant are two athletes postered on the walls — he is looking to acquire football helmets from the various local high schools. Already, Yarbrough has a shiny new black Valdosta State helmet and says he is hoping to acquire Lowndes, Valdosta and Valwood helmets.
Headquartered in Georgetown, Texas, Sports Clips ranked inside the top 20 of Entrepreneur Magazine’s Fastest Growing Franchises and in the top 100 in the Franchise 500 and in the top 10 in Forbes’ Top 20 Franchises to Start.
In 2012, the company is expected to add 100 franchises, including its Valdosta location.
For Yarbrough, he knew he wanted to start a franchise once he and his wife walked into a Sports Clips location for the first time.
“We just fell in love with it,” Yarbrough said.
While Yarbrough will serve as the Team Leader, manager Yamika Jones will run the day-to-day operations and the managing of the eight stylists.
Sports Clips in Valdosta will be open Monday thru Friday from 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday’s 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday’s 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
