Friday night football recap

VALDOSTA — VALDOSTA — Nearly every team across the state of Georgia took part in preseason games Friday night. Here is a recap of some of the local teams’ games.

Valwood 35, Tiftarea 0

The Valwood Valiants secured their first (although unofficial win) under head coach Ashley Henderson Friday night at Goddard Field. Although score was not officially kept between the two schools — GISA rules prohibit score being kept during preseason games — the Valiants racked up 35 points and managed to pitch a shutout against the Panthers and their head coach Ryan Branch. The Valwood starters played just the first half. Valwood opens regular season play Friday against Windsor Academy.

Coffee 39, Cook 0

The Coffee Trojans kicked off the Robby Pruitt era with a dominating 39-0 win over the Cook Hornets Friday night in Douglas. The Hornets were hampered by three turnovers on the night. Cook opens regular season play Aug. 31 against Worth County at Memorial Stadium in Adel.

Lanier County 14, Pelham 7

The Bulldogs of Lanier County scored 14 unanswered points and beat the Pelham Hornets 14-7 Friday night at Roquemore Stadium in Lakeland. The win was the first under head coach David Ward, although the win does not officially count towards the team’s record. The Bulldogs open regular season play Friday against Atkinson County.

Brooks Co., Albany postponed

The scheduled scrimmage between the Brooks County Trojans and the Albany Indians was postponed Friday night. The game will be played tonight at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.

Other local scores:

• Monroe 7, Tift County 0

• Norcross 33, Colquitt County 31.

* A score for the Clinch County versus Miller County exhibition game was not reported by time of press. The Berrien Rebels were idle Friday night.
