VALDOSTA —
VALDOSTA — Valwood’s football team won for the second consecutive week, routing Fullington Academy 54-16 Friday night.
Alex Waldron scored six touchdowns, J.B. Bahnsen threw four touchdown passes and the Valiants dominated the final three quarters on Friday.
The win makes the Valiants 2-0. Valwood has already doubled its win total from last season.
“I’m just proud of (my team),” Valwood head coach Brannon Tidwell said. “This is the same group as last year. They’ve done everything we’ve asked of them, and they see that it’s paying off.”
“It’s exciting for the school,” Tidwell added. “Everyone’s pumped. There was a big crowd there for us.”
Waldron was a one-man wrecking crew on Friday. He caught three touchdown passes, ran for two touchdowns and also scored a touchdown on defense.
“Alex had a great game,” Tidwell said.
In addition to Waldron's six touchdowns, Valwood tight end Rob Blanton caught a 70-yard touchdown pass, and Ian Mashburn ran for a score.
The Valiants fell behind early, as Fullington jumped out to an early 16-0 lead. But the rest of the game was all Valwood, as the Valiants reeled off 54 unanswered points, and turned the game into a rout.
The fourth quarter was played with a running clock.
After the game, Tidwell said the win was a total team effort. Including their preseason scrimmage with Sherwood Christian, the Valiants have won all three times they've taken the field in 2010.
"Everything's clicking right now," Tidwell said. "We've got to keep doing what we've been doing ... Our offensive line played great … Our defense played well. They were flying to the ball. They hit hard."
Next week, Valwood will travel to Quincy, Fla. to play Robert F. Munroe Academy.
