Vikings sweep Alcovy
Cory Pope gave the Lowndes Vikings everything they needed in game one of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Alcovy Tigers. Then in game two, Lowndes’ offense came alive and provided plenty of support as the Vikings swept Alcovy 2-0 and 8-1 in the second round of the Class AAAAAA state playoffs at Noel George Field.
With the sweep, the Vikings advance to the Elite 8 — the state quarterfinals — where they will face either Roswell or Mill Creek, who will meet in a doubleheader today in Hoschton, on Tuesday. -
Former Vikette Santana named A-Sun Scholar Athlete of the Year
Former Lowndes Vikette softball player and current Mercer Lady Bear Sarah Santana was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year, an honor that came less than a week after being named to the 2013 First Team Capital One Academic All-District IV.

Berrien swept by Jeff Davis, 9-4 and 3-2
Berrien’s baseball team, ranked No. 1 in Class AA, was swept by Jeff Davis High School in the second round of the Class AA state playoffs Wednesday afternoon. The Rebels lost game one 9-4 before falling 3-1 in game two.
