ATLANTA —
Authorities say a Georgia Tech student shot an intruder who broke into a house near the campus.
Police say the shooting happened around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday at a house near the Georgia Institute of Technology on the north edge of downtown Atlanta.
Atlanta police Capt. Adam Lee tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/KAFdZK) that three male Georgia Tech students were asleep inside their home on Curran Street off 10th Street when an intruder broke through a front window of the house.
Lee said one of the residents, a first-year graduate student, was awakened by the shattering glass, grabbed a handgun and went to investigate.
Police say the student shot the intruder once in the chest. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical but stable condition.
