CANTON, Ga. —
Sheriff’s deputies in Cherokee County say a man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross a dimly lit highway at night.
WSB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/MIu5eX ) a Nissan SUV hit 52-year-old Herrera Mendez late Friday as he was crossing Ga. 92. Sheriff’s officials say Mendez, who was dead in the scene, was not walking in a crosswalk when he got hit.
Cherokee County Sheriff’s Lt. Jay Baker says there’s no evidence to indicate the driver of the Nissan was speeding or impaired.
Deputies are still investigating the fatal crash.
