ATLANTA —
Authorities say personal information belonging to about 900 former ambulance patients has been stolen, and was copied by a former contract worker.
Officials said Friday that authorities investigated a breach of personal records belonging to patients who were transported by Grady Health System ambulances.
Grady Health System spokeswoman Denise Simpson says the contractor worked for Advanced Data Processing Inc., a company that handles the hospital’s billing system.
An internal investigation by Advanced Data Processing revealed an employee stole personal information of thousands of ambulance service patients nationwide between January and October.
Simpson says the employee has been identified and terminated.
Officials are contacting people whose information may have been compromised.
The contracting company is offering former patients a year of free credit monitoring.
