MUSIC: Lo Cash Cowboys, more

VDT View — THIS IS HOW WE DO IT: LoCash Cowboys

This pair of country rockers have been increasing their exposure the past few years. LoCash Cowboys has made a few Valdosta stops at the Rock ’N Rodeo and now is making strides with this latest EP, featuring three tracks that display what these guys can do. What they do best is fuse country with a long dash of ’80s hair metal. LoCash Cowboys rock through “You Got Me.” They get a little country Poison or Motley Crue with the double-entendre country-gal shout out of “Fresh Off the Farm,” with its lines of “Ellie Mae fine ...” “Right Here in Front of You” is country, but it has the qualities of a power rock ballad. LoCash Cowboys is a fine, young country act for kids raised on rock, country and any music from the past 30 years, combined into a unique package.

WINTER FRUITS: Loren Stillman

Loren Stillman can wail a mean saxophone. Stillman’s back-up band of Gary Versace, organ, Nate Radley, guitar, and Ted Poor, drums, is equally as talented. They work the scales, hit the right notes, and strike evocative instrumental moods on Stillman’s six compositions and Poor’s two songs. Each work is satisfying alone, but “Winter Fruits” is unsatisfying as a total package. These eight cuts fly off into intriguing, experimental riffs, but this album could use a few songs with strong melodies to break up what becomes a monotony of improvisation. Winter Fruits is ripe. Its songs sweet. But too much fruit can give a person a belly ache.
