Ga. teen accused in sword stabbings pleads guilty

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. — A teen accused of using a 35-inch samurai sword to kill his great-grandmother has pleaded guilty but mentally ill in the attack.

WGCL-TV (http://bit.ly/YDlgK2) reports the 16-year-old boy accepted a plea deal Wednesday in the death of his 77-year-old great-grandmother, Mary Joan Gibbs, who was killed Aug. 15, 2011. A jury in November found the teen competent to stand trial.

Police say the teen stabbed Gibbs and his grandmother, Laura Price, after he was told to stop playing video games.

Although the teen was charged as an adult with malice murder and four counts of aggravated assault, the Associated Press typically does not identify juvenile crime suspects.
