Albany, Ga., man gets 17 years on drug charges

ALBANY, Ga. — A judge has sentenced an Albany man to just over 17 years in prison on drug possession and distribution charges.

WALB-TV (http://bit.ly/Iy8imU ) reports that U.S. District Judge W. Louis Sands also ordered 30-year-old Craig Harrell to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term.

Harrell pleaded guilty in February to possession of cocaine base or crack cocaine with the intent to distribute. In 2009, he admitted that he possessed 716.98 grams of cocaine base or crack cocaine with the intent to distribute.

The judge said the drug dealing was an activity Harrell had undertaken voluntarily. The judge also took into account the serious nature of the criminal conduct Harrell engaged in to determine the sentence.
