Is this the end of TSPLOST?

VALDOSTA — The Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax in the Southern District continues to look grim for proponents of the one cent sales tax.

With 10 of the 18 counties in the district reporting, TSPLOST has passed in only two counties. In Atkinson, the referendum passed by 6 votes, and in Coffee County, it passed by a wider margin, 53 percent yes to 47 percent no.

Tift County also voted the tax down, by a margin of 53 percent no to 47 percent yes. The widest margin so far has been in Echols County, with a whopping 73 percent of the county's residents voting no to TSPLOST.

The remaining counties are nearly finished counting their precincts and once the final tally is in, the Times will post it to breaking news.
