Grandmother dies after dispute with granddaughter

MACON, Ga. — A Macon grandmother has died after police say her 22-year-old granddaughter attacked her, knocking her unconscious.

Authorities say 62-year-old Shirley Green was placed on life support at The Medical Center of Central Georgia and later died after the Wednesday confrontation.

Bibb County arrest warrants state that 22-year-old Kierra Thomas punched her in the head and kicked her in the stomach. She’s charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of cruelty to children. The Telegraph reports (http://bit.ly/VKr851) that the cruelty charge stems from allegations that Thomas shook her 2-year-old daughter and held her to a sofa in a choke hold.

Jail records show that Thomas was being held at the Bibb County jail on $28,690 bond. The records do not indicate whether she has an attorney in the case.
