One of the top students in her class, and one of the top track and field competitors in the state, Jones will be taking her talents to the Division I level after she signed a track and field scholarship with Georgia Tech on Tuesday. -
Fans welcome home champion Blazers
Much like it had done all season, the local Valdosta community showed its support for the National Champion Valdosta State softball team Sunday.
The support started when the team reached the Georgia state-line on its trip home Sunday morning when it was greeted by 13 police vehicles -

Morgan Johnson hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to carry the top-ranked Valdosta State Blazers past the Southern Connecticut Owls, 6-3, on Friday morning.

Blazers battle Mocs in Super Regionals
The top-ranked Valdosta State softball team will host the Florida Southern Mocs tonight at 6 p.m. in the first game of the South Super Regional.
The two teams will play again Saturday at 1 p.m., with the “if necessary” game being held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. No team has swept the Blazers in a doubleheader this season, making the outcome of tonight’s game even more important. -

Charging ahead
The Valdosta State softball team used a fifth inning grand slam by Marti Littlefield to pull away and beat arch-rival Alabama-Huntsville 9-4 on Day 2 of the South Region I Tournament Saturday afternoon at the VSU Softball Complex.
“It felt amazing,” said Littlefield. “I had been on her the whole game, and she had been sliding pitches and I finally just sat back and drove one.” -
VSU chasing region title
The South Region I Tournament begins today at the VSU Softball Complex.
The No. 1-ranked Valdosta State Blazers (48-3) will host eighth-seeded Miles College tonight at 7. Fourth seed Rollins will face fifth seed Alabama-Huntsville at 4:30 p.m. -
Vikettes dominate
Lowndes hammered Westlake 8-0 in the first round of the Class AAAAA girls soccer playoffs on Wednesday at Martin Stadium.
The Vikettes scored two goals in the first four minutes, and never looked back. Seven different players scored for Lowndes on Wednesday. -
Vikings begin spring football practice
The Lowndes Vikings officially began spring football practice Monday.
The Vikings practiced for well over 2 1/2 hours in the 90-plus degree heat, and according to head coach Randy McPherson the day went well. -
South Region tournament field announced
To nobody’s surprise, the Valdosta State softball was selected as the top seed in the NCAA South Region, and host of the South Region I Tournament.
