VSU softball opens title defense with pair of wins over Southern Arkansas
Valdosta State started the 2013 season the same way the Blazers ended 2012. In the 2012 NCAA Division II National Championship game, Courtney Albritton led off with a home run. She did the same Saturday in the season opener against Southern Arkansas. Valdosta State’s heavy bats continued throughout the day for five home runs en route to 6-0 and 7-3 victories over the Muleriders to start the season 2-0.

Valdosta sweeps Lowndes
Valdosta’s basketball teams swept crosstown rival Lowndes in their Region 1-6A openers on Saturday night at the VHS gymnasium.
Valdosta’s boys dominated, winning 85-44. Valdosta’s girls built an early double digit lead, held it most of the game and earned a 54-47 win. -
Hardwood rivalry renewed
The varsity basketball teams from Lowndes and Valdosta will meet for the first time this season tonight at Valdosta High School.
The games will serve as the Region 1-AAAAAA openers for both schools.
The girls’ game is set for a 6 p.m. tip-off, with the boys’ game being scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip. -
7 local players named AP All-State
The Associated Press has released the 2012 Georgia High School Association All-State football teams.
Lowndes placed two players on the Class 6A All-State team, while Valdosta placed none. Brooks County placed two on the Class AA team. Cook and Lanier County each placed one defender. -
Titletown All-Stars win state championship
The Titletown All-Stars, a 10U youth football team comprised of all-stars from the Valdosta Boys and Girls Club, had revenge on their minds entering Saturday’s state championship game in Atlanta.
Facing South Columbus in the National Preparatory Football Association’s Scott Coalition Bowl inside the Georgia Dome, the All-Stars avenged an earlier tournament loss to the Falcons, winning the state championship game, 6-0. - More Top Sports News Headlines
