Two girls were recently honored by local high schools.
Miss LHS
Jenna Jameson was recently crowned Miss Lowndes High School 2002.
A rising senior, Jameson plans to attend Valdosta State University, where she will complete her core classes before transfering to Auburn University and pursuing a degree in psychology.
Jameson has served as president and vice president of her school’s Anchor Club, secretary of the Class Cabinet during her sophomore year, and captain of the batgirls. She is a member of the national honor roll, Beta Club, student council, Interact club, the Crossroads Baptist Youth Group, Who’s Who Among American High School Students, and the Physicians Outreach Program.
She was a junior varsity cheerleader, Sigma Delta Theta Sorority’s most outgoing sophomore, and a Key Club Sweetheart representative.
During her spare time, Jameson enjoys participating in mission trips, traveling, playing with her dog Peyton, and going out with friends.
Miss VHS
Laura Middleton, the 17-year-old daughter of Keith and Emily Middleton, was recently crowned Miss Valdosta High School.
A rising senior, Middleton plans to study middle grades education after graduation.
She is a member of the high school’s Managing Pressures Before Marriage team, Sigma Delta Theta Sorority, Art Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Key Club. She also serves as a batgirl for the school’s baseball team.
Middleton is an honor roll student who was recently named Student of the Month at Valdosta High. She is a member of Who’s Who Among American High School Students and the National Honor Roll and a recipient of the National Leaderhip Merit Award.
During her spare time, Middleton is an active volunteer for the Pregnancy Support Clinic, a volunteer counselor at camp “Son”shine, and an active member of the youth choir and youth group at Northside Baptist Church. She has also studied dance for the past 14 years, including tap, ballet, jazz, and pointe.

James B. ‘J.B.’ Deas
JENNINGS, FLA. — James B. “J.B.” Deas, age 71, of Jennings, Fla., passed away Monday, June 3, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center in Dowling Park, following an extended illness. The Hamilton County native and lifelong resident was a farmer and veteran of the U.S. Army. Survivors include four daughters, Denise Depew (Mike) and Connie King, all of Jennings, Fla., Donna Deas, Valdosta, and Mary Wachob (Nathan), Plantation Key, Fla.; one sister, Geraldine Beasley (Leon), Jacksonville, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Michael Depew (Lisa) and Suzanne Wilson (Cliff), Timmy, Daniel and Mary Ellen King, Alex and Zach Wachob; and one great-granddaughter, Hannah King. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Burnham Christian Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Katie Fletcher Harris
Katie Fletcher Harris, age 89, of Jasper, Fla., passed away Monday, June 3, at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center, Jasper, Fla. Katie was born in Bullock County, Ga., on June 30, 1912, to the late “Doc” and Addie Parrish. She was a homemaker and member of Advent Christian Church, Jasper. Survivors include two daughters, Helen Rutledge, Goosecreek, S.C., and Dorothy Perkins, Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6, at Evergreen Cemetery, Jasper, Fla. The family will receive friends between the hours of 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Harry T. Woodrow W. Noble
ADEL — Mr. Woodrow W. Noble, 82, of Adel died on June 2, 2002, at Holly Hill Nursing Home, Valdosta. He was born on Sept. 8, 1919, in Cook County to the late Homer I. and Josie Irene Cone Noble. He lived in Cook County all of his life. He was retired from Civil Service and Real Estate, an Army WWII veteran, Mason and Shriner; and member of Adel United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Rudine Arrington Noble of Adel; one son, David Noble of Orlando, Fla.; one daughter, Peggy Noble of Adel; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Adel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Craig Hutto officiating. Funeral services for Mr. Joseph B. Cox, 88, of Valdosta will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 716 S. Troup St. Valdosta. The remains will lie in state at the church from 9 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday morning. Burial will be held in County Line Cemetery. Ruby Hunt Noles, 79, of Valdosta died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at the VA Medical Center in Lake City, Fla.
