Raymond C. Crosby



ADEL — Raymond C. Crosby, 86, of Adel, died June 27, 2001, at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. He was born on Jan. 29, 1915, in Cook County where he lived most of his life to the late Cary L. and Maggie Ellen Castleberry Crosby. He was a retired owner of Crosby Refrigeration Service, and member of Antioch United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Troy Griffin Crosby; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Derry and Annette Crosby of Valdosta; one daughter, Sandra C. Odom, Dudley; grandchildren, Cecilia King, Dublin, Chuck Odom, Dudley, Courtney Crosby, Athens, Justin Crosby and Cara Crosby, both of Valdosta; one great-grandson, Cody Odom, Dudley. He was preceded in death by one brother W.M. Crosby and three sisters, Bernice Fender, Lola Pafford and Lazelle Holmes. Funeral service will be held at 11 am. Friday in the chapel of Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home, Hwy. 41 South, with the Rev. Randy Mosley officiating. Burial will be held in Antioch Church Cemetery. Hubert Leon Davis



ALBANY — Hubert Leon Davis died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at his residence in Albany. He was a native of Columbus and had lived in Albany for the past 45 years. Mr. Davis graduated from Jordan High School in Columbus and was a 1953 graduate from the School Pharmaceutical at Auburn University, where he was a member of both the marching and concert bands. He practiced pharmacy in Florida, Alabama and Georgia. Mr. Davis was formerly the proprietor of Lane Rexall Drug store in Albany, and he later retired from the local Rite Aid/Super X store after serving it for 22 years. He was a past member of the Albany Lions Club and Kiwanis Club and The Georgia Pharmaceutical Association. He was a life member of the Auburn Pharmaceutical Association and the Auburn Alumni Association. As a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, he sang in the choir and was a member of Men of the Church. He served as a deacon and an elder, and in 1998, was designated Elder Emeritus in honor of his service to the church. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Scott Dyess of Lake Park and Joyce and David McSwain of Thomaston; one son and daughter-in-law, John L. and Terry Davis of Jacksonville, Fla. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Joseph Daniel Dyess of Lake Park, Zachary Kyle and Meghan Anna McSwain of Thomaston and Lindsey Leigh and Amy Lynn Davis of Jacksonville, Fla. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Paul Luthman will officiate. Burial will be held in Crown Hill Cemetery. Sgt. Pamela Jae Simmons Hammond



VALDOSTA — Sgt. Pamela Jae Simmons Hammond, 43, of Valdosta, died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at Louis Smith Hospital in Lakeland after complications from an automobile accident in 1993. She was born on Sept. 10, 1957, in Maryville, Tenn., was a U.S. Army veteran having served 16 years. Sgt. Hammond was with the 202nd Medical Group, Jacksonville, Fla. She served in Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War. Sgt. Hammond was a member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church. She is survived by her parents, Martie and Harold Hammond of Valdosta, one sister and brother-in-law, Rona and Steve Degman of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Mike Hammond of Shiloh, Ill., and Chuck and Sophie Hammond of Valdosta; 15 nieces and nephews. Sgt. Hammond was preceded in death by one sister, Sherri Haans of Davis, Calif., who died Sept. 13, 2000, and her biological father, Thomas Simmons of Poca, W.Va. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Posey and the Rev. Richard Newton officiating. Burial will be held

Leonard James (Jim) Johnson



MONROE — Leonard James (Jim) Johnson, 34, of Monroe, died Monday, June 25, 2001, at Walton Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was born on Oct. 26, 1966, in Valdosta and had lived in Monroe for one year. Mr. Johnson served three years in the U.S. Army and was a paramedic with Newton General Hospital in Covington. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his fiance’, Carli Odum of Monroe; mother, Mary Sutton Holcomb of Lake Park; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Anita Fountain of Jacksonville, Fla.; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Patricia and Jeff Beck of Lakeland, Debra and Mike Sims of Valdosta, Susan and Benny Greene of Lake Park and Tammy Hansard of Leesburg, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard L. Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Green officiating. Jeanette Tina “Me Me” Lovell



VALDOSTA — Jeanette Tina “Me Me” Lovell was born on Dec. 20, 1927 in Fort Worth, Texas to Helen Mullins. She resided at 600 E. Gordon St. in Valdosta. At an early age she became a member of Faith Baptist Church in Springfield, Mass. Before her demise, she joined King Solomon Baptist Church in July 2000, here in Valdosta. Retired as a state employee with the American International College in Springfield, she was a truck driver for a salt company in Lubbock, Texas, the first black gospel singer to have a television show, a local recording artist and group organizer of the Biblettes and Harveyettes in Massachusetts, sponsored various gospel groups from around the country and was the pianist for several local churches here in Valdosta. Her demise was on Friday, June 22, 2001 at South Georgia Medical Center in ICU. As a lady of music, a loving mother and loyal friend, she leaves to mourn a devoted husband and companion, Joseph Lovell; one son, Willie James King; four daughters, Patricia Glenn of Springfield, Alma “Pinky” Smith of Valdosta, Margaret “Mickey” Walkee, Springfield, Sarah Frances and Dennard Allen, son-in-law, of Valdosta; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a very special cousin, Clifford Fitzsimmons of Wichita, Kan.; goddaughter and friend, Mollie Jones; and devoted friend, Elvira Williams; four very special and loving godchildren, Aaron Harris, Devon Newman, Martissa Lundy of Donaldsonville and Thameka Miller of Valdosta; and a host of relatives and close friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. J.D. Martin, pastor, will officiate. Ellison Monroe Williamson Sr.



ALBANY — Ellison Monroe Williamson Sr. 84, of Albany, died Wednesday in Quitman. Born in Arabi, Mr. Williamson had lived in Albany a number of years. He was a retired farmer and owner/operator of Valet Service Cleaners. Mr. Williamson was a member of Radium Springs Baptist Church in Albany where he was a deacon and a member of the Senior Men’s Bible Class. He was a Gideon and a very active member of the Albany Kiwanis Club until his retirement. Survivors include his wife, Edna B. Williamson of Albany; two daughters and son-in-law, Patricia and Claude Butler, Quitman, Jane O’Gorman, Albany; son, E.M. “Sonny” Williamson, Albany; stepdaughter, Glen Ann Harbin, Valdosta; sister, Laverne W. Stewart, Albany; grandchildren, Rick Butler, Tallahassee, Russ Butler, Dixie, Geoff O’Gorman, Atlanta, Jonathan O’Gorman, Tifton, Scott O’Gorman, Albany, Beth W. Laird, Highlands Ranch, Colo., Robbie Williamson, Atlanta, Lee Harbin, San Antonio, Texas, Greg Harbin, Valdosta; great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Anna Laird, Cannon Butler, Grace, Emma Kate and Georgia Harbin, Sam and Alison Peters. will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors, 1503 Dawson Road, Albany, with burial held in Andersonville National Cemetery. Dr. Arven L. Croy will officiate.
