J. S. Bryan

SYLVESTER — J. S. Bryan, 91, of Sylvester, died on Aug. 28, 2002, at Sylvester Health Care. He was born on May 17, 1911, in Turner County to Charles William and Mae Bledsoe Bryan. He lived most of his life in Worth County. He was a retired farmer and member of First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Thornhill Bryan, who died Oct. 17, 1970. He is survived by five daughters, Charlotte Surrency, Evelyn Golden, Joyce Beebe, Sue Rouse, all of Sylvester, and Linda Bryan of Ithaca, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Al Surrency, Pattey Daniel, Bryan Golden, Tom Golden, Alison Warren, Brandi Rouse, Benjamin Craddock; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 30 at Banks Funeral Chapel with Dr. Tom Jacobs and the Rev. Steve Williams officiating. Burial will be held in Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. today at Banks Funeral Home, Sylvester. Robin Vesey Hiscock

QUITMAN — Robin Vesey Hiscock, 87, of Quitman, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at the Presbyterian Home after a lengthy illness. A lifelong resident of Brooks County, he was the son of William Dana and Beatrice Hall Hiscock. He was a maintenance worker for the Presbyterian Home and a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He is survived by one daughter; Ola Jones of Quitman; one son, Thomas Hiscock of Quitman; and one sister, Ann Plymale of Boston. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 30 in Grooverville Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Voyles and the Rev. Wayne Meadows officiating. — Maxwell-Miller Funeral Home



Bill Mickler Sr.

VALDOSTA — Bill Mickler Sr., 87, of Valdosta, went to be with our Lord, Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002. “Mr. Bill” had been at Heritage House Nursing Home for a year prior to his death on Tuesday at South Georgia Medical Center, and had been lovingly cared for, for years by his wife Louelle Reaves Mickler. Bill was born in Selma, Ala. He moved to Indiana with General Motors, retiring in Valdosta where he met and married Louelle. Bill loved Indiana basketball but quickly learned to enjoy the Atlanta Braves, Valdosta/Lowndes football and gospel music. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and the United Auto Workers. Preceded in death by a daughter, Sara; a son, Michael Mickler; and stepson, Jerry Reaves, he is survived by two sons, Bill Mickler Jr. of Muncie, Ind., Don Mickler of San Antonio, Texas; loving wife, Louelle Reaves Mickler of Valdosta; and the Reaves family, Joe Reaves, Sylvia Reaves Amert, Sammy Reaves, Linda Reaves, Stan Reaves and Barbara Reaves Smith; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; special friend, Kathleen Polk of Valdosta. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. today at Carson McLane Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the funeral home. Pastor Wayne Robertson and the Rev. Lawrence E. Selph

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Lawrence E. Selph, 71, resident of Montgomery, Ala., passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2002. Lawrence was born on Dec. 9, 1930, to the late Melvin and Mertie Selph. He was a retired sales representative for Ford Motor Co. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. today at Cloverdale Christian Church, Montgomery, Ala., with the Rev. Gavin Moore officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday Aug. 31, 2002, in the Burnham Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7-8:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 30, 2002 at Harry T. Hazel Spells

NASHVILLE — Hazel Spells, 75, of Nashville, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at her residence. She was born on May 27, 1927, in Berrien County to the late James and Emma Lewis Rogers. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Spells was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo Spells, who died in 1981. She is survived by three sons, Elmo Spells Jr., Wendell Spells, Stevie Spells, all of Nashville; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dot Mathis, Marie Holbrook, Helen Davis, all of Nashville; and two brothers, Rudolph Rogers and Donald Rogers, both of Nashville. Graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, in Westview Cemetery with the Rev. Mickey Lindsey officiating. Billy R. Tomlinson

LAKE PARK — Billy R. Tomlinson, 61, of Lake Park, passed away Wednesday morning, Aug. 28, 2002, at his sister’s residence after a lengthy illness. He was born in Lanier County and had lived in Lake Park for the past 26 years. He was a member of Frances Lake Baptist Church in Lake Park. He was a self-employed distributor for Tom’s Snack Food for 32 years. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Clark and Alaina Tomlinson, Winston Salem, N.C., Kevin and Beth Tomlinson, Atlanta; mother, Willie Mae Tomlinson, Lake Park; sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Gerald Herndon, Valdosta; brother and sister-in-law, Ashley and Cathy Tomlinson, Floyd Knobs, Ind.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30 at Wayfare Cemetery in Echols County.
