Preston Adams
JASPER, Fla. — Preston Adams, 41, of Jasper, died Tuesday evening following a lengthy illness. Mr. Adams was a native of Valdosta and a lifelong resident of Hamilton County. He was employed by PSC and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, and former employee of Cowart Electric Company in Valdosta. Survivors include: wife, Dawn Adams; two children, Dawson Preston and Ragan Blair Adams all of Jasper, a brother, Mike (Jill) Adams of Jennings; a sister, Anjanette (Ron) Radney of Jasper; a sister-in-law, Dana (Tommy) Smith; his mother-in-law Diann Henderson; his father-in-law Drayton (Nellie) Henderson; several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Adams. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2002, in the New Hope Baptist Church, Jennings, with the burial in the church cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Lucille Melendez DoNascimento
VALDOSTA — Lucille Melendez DoNascimento, 90, of Valdosta, died at home on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, after a lengthy illness. Born on Nov. 1, 1912, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, to the late Raimundo and Clemcia Acosta Maldonado Melendez, she was a homemaker and a member of St. John’s Epiphany Catholic Church in Lake City, Fla. Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Evelyn Cataffo of Valdosta and Arleen and Jack Cheetham of Lake City, Fla.; her grandchildren, Mandy Cataffo of Valdosta, Johnny Cataffo of Lake Mary, Fla., and Michael Cataffo of Valdosta; her sister, Angie Morago of Puerto Rico; several nieces and nephews; and her devoted friends, Nancy Boyette of Valdosta and Alberta Frank of Lake City, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Manoel DoNascimento. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, in the Mausoleum chapel of Woodlawn South Cemetery in Miami, Fla. Jeanette Driver
OMEGA — Jeanette Driver, 69, of Omega, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2002, at Tift Health Care. Born January 2, 1933 in Taylor County, Fla. to Chester Henry Cook and Effie Jeanette Cook, Mrs. Driver was a homemaker and retired environmentalist service worker and Mercy South Hospital in Pineville, N.C. She attended Pineview Baptist Church in Tifton. Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Curtis Driver of Omega; one daughter, Jacqueline Edenfield and her husband Gary of Tifton; one step daughter, Christine Thomas of Phenix City, Ala., two sons, Lloyd Phillips of Thomasville, and Edwin Phillips and his wife Dona of Fort Mill S.C.; three step sons, Lloyd Curtis Driver Jr., of Thaxton, Va., Donnie Driver of Brookville, Fla., and Gary Driver and his wife Dianne of Tifton; one brother, M.L. Cook of Clearwater, Fla., 18 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 27, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Pineview Baptist Church in Tifton with the Rev. Edisel Young officiating. Burial will follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. Jean L. Glueck
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Jean L. Glueck, 79, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died on Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at the home of her daughter, Monica Dominey in Valdosta after a short illness. She was born on June 1, 1923, in Syracuse, N.Y. to the late Charles and Clara Alletzhauser Lownsbury. She was a member of Oakhurst United Methodist Church in Seminole, Fla. and a former member of First Baptist Church of Vienna. She had a lifelong history of service to church and community including volunteer work with Hospice. She was also very involved with Boc

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Monica and James Dominey of Valdosta, Claire and Charles Knight of Dublin, Ga.; sons and daughter-in-law, Rick Moore of Vienna, Steve and Dorothy Glueck of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Leigh Tolbert, Andrea Metclaf, both of Valdosta, Amy Struble of Little Rock, Ark., Toli Knight of Warner Robins, Chase Knight of Dublin, Chip Moore of Valdosta, Trey Moore of Hawkinsville, Stephanie Glueck and Leslie Glueck, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Thelma H. Lentz; and one brother, Richard G. Lownsbury, both of Seminole, Fla. Mrs. Glueck was preceded in death by her husband, Dillwyn Glueck. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at the McLane Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Craig Rikard officiating. A private burial will follow at a later date. A.J. Herrin
HOMERVILLE — Mr. A.J. Herrin, 56, passed away early Monday morning at the Clinch Memorial Hospital after a short illness. A native and lifelong resident of Clinch County, he was employed with Hercules for several years before starting his own business, A.J. Herrin Land Clearing. He was the son of Tom Herrin and Dorothy Herrin. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Vera Mae Davis and Sarah Colburn and two brothers, Jim Herrin and Pap Herrin. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Barbara Herrin of Homerville; two sons, Jerome Herrin of Homerville and Dennis Hendley of Zanesville, Ohio; one grandson, Brent Hendley of Zanesville; one sister Mary Frances Miller of Fort White, Fla., and one brother, Eugene Herrin of Pierson, Fla; father-n-law and mother-in-law, Carl H. and Clennie Shell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carl and Connie Shell, all of Homerville. Funeral services for Mr. Herrin will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Homerville Congregational United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Pine Forest. Mr. Herrin will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends today from 7-9 p.m. with visitation after 4 p.m. Mr. Herrin will be carried to the church one hour prior to the services. Harris Sparks Mathis
VALDOSTA — Harris Sparks Mathis, 82, a longtime resident of Valdosta, died on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, in Dunwoody. He was born on July 15, 1920, in Macon to the late Charles Mathis and Mabel Langford Mathis. He was a veteran of World War II and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals as a B-17 pilot with the 8th Air Force stationed in England. Mr. Mathis was also awarded the Silver Beaver, Boy Scout’s highest award for adult volunteers. He was an Elder Emeritus of the First Christian Church in Valdosta. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Matilda Jane Dasher Mathis of Dunwoody; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Harris Sparks Mathis, Jr., and Susan Mathis of Boca Raton, Fla.; Rollin Dasher Mathis and Jenny Mathis of Dunwoody, Ga.; six grandchildren, Mark Ambrose Mathis, Charles Rollin Mathis, Ben Lee Mathis, Reed Harris Mathis, Christy Strickland, and Jason Slagle; one great-grandson, Kaden Christopher Mathis; one sister, Mabel Mathis Horne: and several nieces and nephews including Beth Mathis of Valdosta and Bill Mathis formerly of Valdosta. A memorial service for Mr. Mathis will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at the First Christian Church in Valdosta. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall of the church. HOMERVILLE — Mr. Euley Wiley “E.W.” Stalvey, 64, passed away Wednesday morning following a lengthy illness. A native of Berrien County, he had lived in Clinch County most of his life. He was a retired post Ttuck driver and a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God. He was the son of the late Wi
ley Harold Stalvey and Alberta Allen Stalvey. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Elzia Stalvey. Survivors include two sisters, Carolyn Delk and Lawanna S. Pootle, both of Homerville, six brothers, James Harold Stalvey, Charles Stalvey, Carlton Stalvey, Donald Stalvey, all of Homerville, Julian Stalvey, Glennville, Dolphus Stalvey, Valdosta, his former wife and best friend, Marie Griffis Stalvey of Argyle and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services for Mr. Stalvey will be Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Lighthouse Assembly of God. Burial will follow in the Pine Forest Cemetery. Mr. Stalvey will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends today from 7-9 p.m. with visitation after 5 p.m. Mr. Stalvey will be carried to the church one hour prior to the services. Jacob Patrick Lloyd, infant, of Jacksonville, Fla. died on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 p.m. today at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
