Claydon Hayward Barron

VALDOSTA — Claydon Hayward Barron, 59, of 920 Bunche St., Valdosta, died July 2, 2001. He was born to the late Rev. Hayward Barron and the late Pearl Holmes Barron. Mr. Barron graduated from Pinevale High School in 1960. He was employed by the Atlanta Life Insurance Company for over 30 years, where he served as agent, staff manager and district manager. Mr. Barron was the founder, president and CEO of Azalea City Bail Bonding Company Inc., Azalea City Limousine Service Inc., and Barron’s Insurance Agency. He joined the Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church during his early years and served as a trustee, church treasurer and deacon. Later, Brother Barron became a member of the Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church and male chorus. Brother Barron, a 33-degree mason, served as worshipful master of Eureka Lodge No. 679, district deputy grand master of District No. 19 Valdosta and past grand junior warden of Smooth Ashlar Grand Lodge State of Georgia. Also, Mr. Barron served his community on the Valdosta School Board of Education for 10 years. He was a lifetime member of Professional Bail Agents of the United States and Bail Enforcements. Mr. Barron was a member of the National Limousine Association. Mr. Barron is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Mary Alford Barron, Valdosta; his daughter, Lawanna Renee Barron, Valdosta; and a host of in-laws, extended family members, co-workers and friends. Family visitation hour will be held from 7-8 p.m. today, Harrington Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Greater Morning Star Baptist Church. Lula Mae Christie

VALDOSTA — Lula Mae Christie, 86, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, July 5, 2001 at South Georgia Medical Center. Born March 13, 1915, in Lowndes County, she was the daughter of the late John Hugh and Della Boone Fletcher. Mrs. Christie worked for many years at Dowling Bag. She was a Baptist and widow of the late Judson Claude Christie. Survivors are her children and their spouses, Claude L. “Buster” and Julia Bess Christie, Valdosta, Boyd and Monika Christie, Valdosta, Barbara Faye and Charlie Bowser, Indiana, Pa., Ray L. Christie, Atlanta, William P. “Bill” Christie, Atlanta, Roger Hugh Christie, Valdosta, Sue Ann Christie, Valdosta; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. The Rev. Mickey Wisehart will officiate. Burial will be in Swilley Hill Cemetery. Julia M. Doster

VALDOSTA — Julia M. Doster was born Oct. 8, 1907, to her late parents, Will and Leila Middlebrooks in Ocilla. She was married to the late Norman Doster and the mother of two daughters, Leola and Louise, who preceded her in death. At an early age, she joined the Primitive Baptist Church and remained faithful until a decline in health. She served as church mother for many years and enjoyed serving in this role. After a decline in health, Mrs. Doster moved to Valdosta in 1998. On Saturday, June 30, 2001, Mrs. Doster answered the call of death and departed this life at Crestwood Nursing Home. Preceding her in death were one sister, Ella Mae Darden; two brothers, Gilbert Middlebrooks and Jimmy Lockett. She leaves to lament her passing one son-in-law, Author Williams Sr.; one sister, Emma Reid, Ocilla; eight grandchildren, William Doster (Jackie), Curtis Williams (Frances), Arthur Williams (Eva), Jean Mitchell (Leon), Mary Moye (James), Johnny Williams (Dorothy), Christine Williams and Diann McCrae. Also mourning her death are a god-grandson, Matthew Tooley (Farrie); a devoted great-grandchild, Mae Frances Williams; 23 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-gra





nds; a sister-in-law, Blanch Middlebrooks; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends, Venora Tyson and Vartena Lissimore. Tommy ‘Thomas’ Henderson Jr.

VALDOSTA — Tommy “Thomas” Henderson Jr., 74, 905 Henry Drive, passed away at 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2001. Mr. Henderson was a native of Florida and resided in Valdosta. He was a construction worker at Henderson Construction. He was born Feb. 5, 1927, in Gainesville, Alachua County, Fla., to the late Minnie Blount Henderson and Thomas Henderson Sr. Mr. Henderson was a member at Day Spring Baptist Church. He served faithfully as a deacon and as an usher. His six sisters, Sara, Mamie, Gladys, Willie Mae, Pauline and Barbara; three brothers, Alfred, Leroy and Daniel preceded him in death. Survivors who will cherish his fond memories are a devoted and loving wife, Ruby L. Henderson; six sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas Henderson, Baltimore, Md., Johnnie Lee (Sharon) Henderson, Gainesville, Fla., Clifford Henderson, Elizabeth, N.J., Tommy J. Winston A. Hunter

VALDOSTA — Winston A. Hunter, 58, of Lake Park, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at his residence after a long illness. He was born on March 20, 1943, in Statenville to William and Dolly DeLoach Hunter. He was owner and operator of Hunter’s Furniture and Antiques and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Hunter was also a veteran having served in the U.S. Army for four years. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Sims Hunter, Lake Park; two daughters, Tari O’Gorman, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Andrea Hunter, Valdosta; one son, Winston A. (Buddy) Hunter II, Lake Park; two godchildren, Patrick Burr and Becky Burr, both of Statenville; four sisters, Le Movie Edmondson, Alice Bonner, Billie Jean Weaver, and Rose Parker, all of Statenville; two brothers, J.W. Hunter and Orvis Hunter, both of Statenville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ilene Aultman Kent

VALDOSTA — Ilene Aultman Kent was born Oct. 5, 1956 in Tifton. She was the daughter of Frank C. Aultman Sr., and Merry Vinitta (Perrin) Aultman. Ilene was raised in the Tifton area, completing her high school education at Tift High School. Ilene obtained her GED prior to entering into the service of her country in the U.S. Army in 1975. She received her basic training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. She then received advanced training as

a medic and was honorably discharged in 1976. Upon completion of her military service, Ilene accepted employment as a dental assistant for Dr. Harold Tripp in Reidsville and was employed for over three years until 1979 when she moved to Valdosta to pursue higher education. She worked in numerous capacities while attending school. She was married to Richard Sammie Kent on June 6, 1982 in Valdosta. The couple had one son, Richard Sammie Kent II. In 1993, Ilene accepted part-time employment with South Georgia Pecan in Valdosta. She continued her education while employed there, receiving her bachelor of science from Valdosta State University in 1994. For the past three years, Ilene had served as procurement manager at South Georgia Pecan and was recently given the additional responsibility of gift shop manager. Ilene was a gourmet cook and enjoyed catering family functions. She was known to her family as the sister that always ran late. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and her pride and joy Doberman, Blue. She passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2001, at the St. Vincent Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla. Ilene is survived by her husband, Sammie of the home; son, Richard of the home; four brothers, Bill, Roger, Terry and Stanley Aultman; eight sisters, Linda Childers, Carolyn Holsenbeck, Jayne Tripp, Marsha Cooper, Deborah Culpepper, Tamza Black, Wanda Smith and Norma James; mother-in-law, Jewell Pafford, and sister-in-law, Debbie Waters. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Frank “Bim” Aultman Jr., and a sister, Sandra Faye Aultman. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home. Rev. Isaac Lawson Sr.

VALDOSTA — The Rev. Isaac Lawson Sr., 73, of Cecil, passed this life on June 30, 2001, at the Memorial Hospital in Adel. The Rev. Lawson was born on July 7, 1927, in Chiefland, Fla., to the late Isaac Lawson and the late Maybell Cottrell Lawson. He joined the armed services and served from 1946 to 1947. He retired from Moody Air Force Base. He was married to Mamie Louise Shepard Lawson. He received his calling to preach and pastored several churches in Lowndes and Cook counties. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mamie L. Lawson, Cecil; four children, Isaac Lawson Jr. (Vernita), Cecil, Patricia Ann Lawson, Cecil, Gretchen Denise Way (Clifford), Sparks, and Frank Eric Lawson (Jeanie), Cecil; one grandchild, Isaac Shamal Lawson III, Reynolds; one brother, Wesley Cottrell, Jacksonville, Fla.; four brothers-in-law, Frank Shepard (Janet), Washington D.C., Hayes Shepard (Coressa), James Shepard (Artherina) and Clarence Shepard (Maria), all of Dayton, Ohio; three sisters-in-law, Helen Stokes, Dayton, Gladys Jones, Hahira, Clara Shepard, Flint, Mich., many adopted daughters and sons, other loving relatives and friends. Arthie Carver McCranie Leavens

HOMERVILLE — Arthie Carver McCranie Leavens, 68, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at her residence from an apparent heart attack. A native and life-long resident of Clinch County, she was retired and was the daughter of the late Lawrence Carver and Martha Giffis Carver and the widow of Roy Leavens. Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce Williams Mixon and Grady Mixon, Fargo; two grandsons and a granddaughter-in-law, Darrell Williams, Lawrence Williams and Danielle Williams, all of Fargo; two great-grandchildren, Rebecca Williams and Lee Williams, Fargo; and a number of other relatives. Services for Mrs. Leavens will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Edith Baptist Church, Fargo. Interment will be in the Pine Forest Cemetery, Homerville. Mrs. Leavens will remain at the funeral home where the

Virginia Lowery Williams

QUITMAN — Virginia Lowery Williams, 86, of Moultrie, died Monday, July 2, 2001 at Magnolia Manor after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Williams was the daughter of Thomas Marshall and Roxie Russell Lowery. She had lived most of her life in Brooks County, where she worked as a clerk for Carmichael’s Department Store. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Moultrie. She is survived by one daughter, Margie (Robert) Tadlock, Moultrie; two sons, Sherman (Eleanor) C. Williams Jr., Mobil, Ala., Jack (Terri) Williams, Irving, Texas; seven grandchildren, DeeDee Graham, Doug Williams, Kliftin Nygaa, Robyn Williams, Shannon Childers, Rob Tadlock and Marcia Tadlock; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Clanton, Clearwater, Fla., Frances Myers, Valdosta; two brothers, Bill Lowery, Atlanta, Louie Lowery, New Jersey.
