Berta Bolds
VALDOSTA — Berta Bolds, 87, Valdosta resident since 1955, died on Sunday, June 30, 2002, after a short illness. Born in Lumpkin County, Ga., on Dec. 27, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Kate Dale and Roy M. Philyaw and widow of John F. Bolds. Mrs. Bolds was a homemaker and member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Survivors are her sister, Lena Mathews of Moultrie: numerous nieces and nephews, including Katie Pruett of Hazelhurst, Mary J. Davis of Conyers, and Shirley O’Lander of Sonoma Valley, Calif.; Faye Brock of Winder, Jerone Philyaw of Thomasville, Dr. Jimmy Mathews, Jerry Philyaw of Moultrie, Danny Ray Philyaw of Colquitt, Vernon Fletcher and Charles Fletcher of Thomasville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Father John O’Brien will officiate. A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Moultrie. — Carson McLane Funeral Home
Fred Thomas Dodd
BARWICK — Fred Thomas Dodd, 76, of Barwick died Monday, July 1, 2002, after a brief illness. Born in Brooks County, he was the son of Clarence and Mae Patrick Dodd. He was a retired farmer and member of Barwick United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Dodd of Barwick; two daughters, Pat Hastings of Barwick, Debbie (Jim) Dodd-Squires of Charlotte, Vt.; one son, Thommy (Nancy) Dodd of Dunwoody, Ga.; four grandchildren, Tally Hastings, Jennifer Hastings, Anna Hastings, and Olivia Dodd; one great grandchild, Emily Hastings; one sister, Billie (John) Crager of Quitman; and one brother, Gene (Ada) Dodd of Quitman. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Rosewood Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Harvey officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. this evening. Susan Gail Rollins
Susan Gail Rollins, 46, Nashville, died Monday, July 1, 2002, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 12, 1955, in Berrien County, she was the daughter of Walter N. Blackmon and Martha Nell Rowan. She was a homemaker and a member of Hope Baptist Church. Mrs. Rollins is survived by her husband, Timmy Donaldson of Nashville; her father and mother, Walt and Martha Nell Blackmon of Nashville; a sister, Cyndee Samarripas, Houston, Texas; six half-brothers, Blane, Steve, Andy, Brad, Mark and Jason Rollins, all of Louisville; and a brother, Roy Blackmon, Nashville. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. Billy Southerland and the Rev. Dean Spivey officiating. Interment is at Nashville Memorial Gardens. Edward Sprolden
Edward Sprolden, 64, sunrise May 4, 1938, sunset June 28, 2002. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at graveside at Sunset Hill Cemetery, the Rev. Marvin Sirmans officiating. He was born in Sanford, Fla., and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed at May Flower Moving Co. and Dowling Bag Co. until his health failed him. He lived at 603 Burrow Lane in Valdosta. He was born to the late Mr. Glennie and Mable Sprolden. He leaves to mourn his passing three daughters, Mrs. Charlene Brown (Harry), Valdosta, Teresa Washington (Alex), Hahira and Latosha Sprolden; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Altamese Lane (Morris), Valdosta; one brother, Clarence Sprolden (Elizabeth), Valdosta; a host of family and friends; a special friend, Eugene Wilson of Jacksonville, Fla. — Stevens Funeral Home.

CORDELE — Gina (Odom) Strong, 41, of Cordele, Ga., died on Sunday, June 30, 2002, in Valdosta. She was born on Monday, June 12, 1961, in Cordele to Wesley R. Mary Lee Davis, 73, of Valdosta passed this life on June 29, 2002, at the Phoeby Putney Hospital in Albany, Ga. Ernest Lamar Gaskins, 78, of Lakeland, Ga. passed away late Saturday evening June 29, 2002, in Clinch Memorial Hospital. He was born in Berrien County and had lived in Port Orange, Fla. before returning to Lakeland approximately a year and half ago.
