Catherine Avriett Dees
JASPER, Fla. — Catherine Avriett Dees, 92, of Jennings, Fla., passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Trinity Community Hospital in Jasper. The Hamilton County native and lifelong resident was a homemaker and member of Oak Grove Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband, Marion J. Dees, Jennings; two sons, Charles G. Avriett, Marianna, Fla., and Rodger Avriett, Quincy, Fla.; a stepson, Marion J. Dees Jr., Fort Pierce, Fla.; two daughters, Eloise Shadrick, Georgetown, S.C., and Shirley Black, Walterboro, S.C.; two sisters, Eunie Dees, Jasper, and Vera Swearingen, Gainesville, Fla.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery near Jennings. Deborah Simpson Jacobs
VALDOSTA — Deborah Simpson Jacobs, 44, of Valdosta, passed away Friday morning, Jan. 4, 2002, after a sudden illness. She was born and had lived in Lowndes County for most of her life. She was of the Church of God faith. She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Buckholts. Survivors include her husband, Grady Jacobs; daughter, Dana Simpson; two sons, Brent Simpson, Greg Simpson, all of Valdosta; granddaughter, Hali Simpson; stepdaughter, Mindy Morales, Ocala, Fla., stepson, Grady Jacobs Jr., Cocoa Beach, Fla.; mother and stepfather, Georgia and Lacy Strickland of Valdosta; grandmother, Lucy Lehman; sister, Kathy Clanton of Valdosta; two brothers, Steve Buckholts and Kelvin Buckholts, both of Valdosta. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services. The Rev. Raymond Gabbard will officiate. — Music Funeral Services
Kathleen Rountree Shealy
ADEL — Kathleen Rountree Shealy, 91, of Adel, died on Jan. 4, 2002, at Patten Place, Adel, after a short illness. She was born on Jan. 30, 1910, in Cook County to the late John Wesley “Bud” and Katie Alice Monk Rountree. She lived in Atlanta most of her life before returning to Cook County in 1988. She was a retired registered nurse at Piedmont Hospital and member of Evergreen Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burrell M. Shealy. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Lamar and Cecil Rountree; and two sisters, Marie Rountree and Clyde Lawrence. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Evergreen Baptist Church, Adel, with the Rev. John Gibbs officiating. Burial will be in Rountree Cemetery. John D. Vaughan
CARTERVILLE — John D. Vaughan, 63, of 24 Etowah Lane, Cartersville, died Thursday afternoon, Jan. 3, 2002, in a local hospital. A native of Elba, Ala., Mr. Vaughan was born on Dec. 18, 1938, the son of the late John Frank and Gladys Florene Kite Vaughan. He was a 1957 graduate of Pepperell High School and received his AS, BBA degree from Kennesaw State College. Mr. Vaughan was of the Methodist faith and was a Sunday school teacher. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Mr. Vaughan retired in 1999 from Lockheed Corporation after 40 years of service, retiring as a test equipment builder. Mr. Vaughan is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Jay Strickland of Thomasville; one son, Chris Vaughan of Valdosta; two grandchildren, Haley and Lauren Strickland; two sisters and brother-in-law, Myra and Bill Dempsey, and Martha McGrath, all of Rome. Seven nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Vaughan will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley’s Funeral Home, 2516 New Calhoun Highway, with Dr. Ron Dempsey officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Honor Guard from Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion in charge of military graveside rites. Chapel of Fred Talley’s Funeral Home, 2516 New Calhoun Highway, where the family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 p.m. At other hours they may be contacted at the residence of his sister and brother-in-law, Myra and Bill Dempsey, 4 Heather Road, Rome. Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. and include Carlton Peek, Jay Strickland, Patrick Peek, Michael Dempsey, Joe Anderson and Frank Veney.

Aaron Dendy Boiter Jr., 69, of Argyle, passed away Friday morning at the Clinch Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness. Funeral services for Mr. Boiter will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Roundtree Funeral Home. Memorialization will be by cremation.
