Earnestine H. Johnson
FITZGERALD — Earnestine H. Johnson, 56, of Fitzgerald, died on Nov. 18, 2001, at Dorming Medical Center in Fitzgerald. She was born on Aug. 21, 1945, in Lowndes County to the late Ernest Hogan Sr. and Kate Hogan. She attended P.G. Williams School in Clyattville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Mary Ann Stewart (Calvin), Kathy Ann Wilcox (Ricky) both of Fitzgerald; Karen Lynn Johnson of Valdosta; one son, John Henry Johnson of Valdosta; one sister, Louise Hogan (Sammy); four brothers, Herbert Hogan (Linda) of Jasper, Fla., Ernest Hogan Jr. (Martha), Johnny Charles Hogan (Linda) and Johnny Lee Matchett (Inez), all of Valdosta; mother-in-law, Nita Johnson of Valdosta; sisters-in-law, Sally Richardson (Nathan), Bernice Johnson, Frances Jones, Margaret Armstrong, and Gloria Jean Davis (Johnny); brothers-in-law, J.C. Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Olan Johnson and J.L.; 10 grandchildren; four uncles; two aunts; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends. Funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Payton AME Church. The Rev. Clement Choice, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. — Scott and Roberts Mortuary
Mamie Lou Robinson Johnson
ADEL — Mamie Lou Robinson Johnson, 79, of Adel, was born on Nov. 11, 1922, in Lowndes County. Her earthly life expired on Nov. 19, 2001. She was the oldest daughter of 10 children born to the union of the late Benjamin F. Robinson Sr. and Lourine Robinson. Four brothers and three sisters preceded her in death, H.W., Roberts Alfred, Benjamin Jr., John Wesley, Leola, Viola and Pauline; respectively. During her formative years, she attended Lowndes County school system. At an early age, she joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church then moved her membership to Piney Grove Baptist Church. When she was able to attend the Piney Grove Baptist Church, she served in the position as usher. She lived most of her adult life in the Cook County area and was a housewife. Mrs. Johnson was married to the late Tommie Lee Johnson Sr. Three children were born to this union. Her eldest son, Alfred Lee Johnson preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 1999. She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Mary L. Johnson of Adel; one son, Tommie Lee Johnson Jr. of Adel; a beloved niece, Marilyn Williams of Atlanta; a devoted grandson, Derrick (Maybell), Dewayne, Brandon and Victor of Atlanta, Keita and Keinan; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Isaiah (Lula) Robinson of Cecil, and Willie James (Lenora) Robinson of Adel; three other sisters-in-law, Martha Robinson of Vero Beach, Fla., Annie Mae Robinson of Riveria Beach, Fla., and Hazel Trayor of New Jersey; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and other friends. Funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Adel. The Rev. Thomas McDowell, pastor, will officiate. Ola Waters Moore
VALDOSTA — Ola Waters Moore, 84, of Valdosta, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 20, 2001, at South Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born in Jenkins County and had lived in Valdosta for the past 12 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Live Embers Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Moore. Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, G.B. and Fae Waters Jr. of Valdosta; special nephew, Marvin Byrd of Valdosta; two special friends, Buddy and Sharon Coleman of Valdosta; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church in Valdosta with burial following in Good Hope Cemetery, Naylor. Mrs. Moore will lie in state one hour prior to services. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. — Music Funeral Services of Valdosta
Harold E. Myers
VALDOSTA — Harold E. Myers, 69, of Valdosta, died on Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville,
Fla. Born on Dec. 9, 1931, in Willacoochee, he was the son of the late John Jacob and Maggie Bell Cannady Myers. A Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a farmer and crew foreman for Georgia Natural Gas. Mr. Myers was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife, Mary Jackson Myers of Valdosta; sons, Nezzip J. Myers of Valdosta, Byron K. (Pam) Myers of Valdosta, Jeffrey L. (Teresa) Myers of Perry, Fla.; daughter, Laura Lynn Myers (Jim) O’Neal of Omaha, Neb.; 11 grandchildren, Teresa (Daniel) Cagle, Jeremy B. (Stephanie) Myers, Paul Myers, Barbara Myers, Kaylynn Myers, Nolan J. Myers, Stacy O’Neal, Elizabeth Nicole O’Neal, Justin Myers, Cameron Myers, Tessa Myers; brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil and Essie Myers of Douglas, Marvin J. and Jean Myers of Valdosta; sisters, Mary and Louis Foxworthy of Blakely, Myrtle Vickers of Douglas, Esther and Tom Guest of Marietta; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Ward will officiate. William David Price
TIFTON — William David “Billy” Price passed away on Nov. 12, 2001, at Tift Memorial after a long illness. He was born on Nov. 2, 1927, Hartford, Ala., to David and Annie Glover Price. Mr. Price served in the U.S. Navy for nine years. Survivors include four sons, David Price and Debbie, Jerry Price, Robin Price, Jody Price and Patty; one daughter, Peggy Culpepper and Raymond; the children’s mother, Ruth Price Akins; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. VALDOSTA — Charles Ellis Roberts, of Valdosta, departed his life on Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at his residence after a brief illness. He was born on Jan. 17, 1949, in Miami, Fla., to Corriner Covington Walker and the late Willie James Roberts. Along with his widow, Mary Roberts, the deceased leaves to mourn his passing six children, Charles Sha’Ron Roberts, Moultrie, Derrell Roberts, Valdosta, Jonathan Roberts, Valdosta, Sharon Knighton Peterson (Clint Jr.), Moultrie, Kristin Copeland, Valdosta, and Asia Gray, Hahira. Other survivors include his mother, Corriner Covington Walker, Moultrie; two sisters, Cynthia Walker Ingram (Willie), Moultrie, Shelia Walker Butler (Henry), Valdosta; two brothers, Freddie Chapman Jr. (Gloria), Lawrenceville, and Robert Walker, Douglas; and five grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a host of cousins and friends. LOWNDES COUNTY — Ronald Laverne Rowan, 50, a lifelong resident of Lowndes County, died on Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at South Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness. Born on Nov. 13, 1951, Mr. Rowan was a self-employed mechanic and a member of Naylor Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Leon Gilbert of Naylor; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Tory Rowan of Hahira, Johnny and Amanda Rowan of Winder; his mother, Thearis Rowan of Valdosta; sisters and brothers-in-law, Vivian and Freddy Brown of Lake Park, Christine and Bill Roberts of Clyattville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert and Margaret Rowan of Hahira, Dwayne and Rhoda Rowan of Arcade, Gene and Brenda Rowan of Adel, Doodle and Peggy Rowan of Barretts, Buggy and Toni Rowan of Valdosta; eight grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Lossie Rowan. A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. LAKELAND — Clyde Eliza Tucker, 90, of Lakeland, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 20, 2001, at South Georgia Medical Center from a lengthy illness. He was born in Clinch County and had lived in Lakeland most of his life. He was a member of Lakeland United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Laverne Tucker of Lakeland, daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Angie DeVivo, Woodbury; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Angel and Tim Brown, Woodbury; granddaughter, Amy DeVivo, Woodbury; two great-grandchildren, Abigael Brown and Thomas Andrew Brown; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Lakeland United Methodist Church with burial following in Greenlawn Cemetery. Mr. Tucker will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services. Vivian Lee Exum, 93, of Lakeland, passed away early Wednesday morning on Nov. 21, 2001, at the Bollingreen Nursing Home in Macon after declining health. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Lakeland with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery.
