Preston Adams

Preston Adams, age 41, of Jasper, Fla., died Tuesday evening, Dec. 24, following a lengthy illness. Preston was born in Valdosta on Sept. 12, 1961, and was a lifelong resident of Hamilton County, where he was employed by PCS. He was a former employee of Cowart Electric Co. in Valdosta and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Adams. Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Dawn Henderson Adams; his daughter, Ragan Blair Adams and his son, Dawson Preston Adams, all of Jasper, Fla; his mother, Becky Jo Adams of Jennings, Fla.; one brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Jill Adams of Jennings, Fla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Anjanette and Ron Radney of Jasper, Fla.; mother-in-law, Diann Henderson; father-in-law and his wife, Drayton and Nellie Henderson; sister-in-law and her husband, Dana and Tommy Smith; three nieces, two nephews, several aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at New Hope Baptist Church with interment following the church ceremony. Joel Allen Jr.

A Time to be Born: Joel Allen Jr., 74 of Valdosta (formerly of Detroit, Mich.) was born on Oct. 2, 1928, to the late Mrs. Winnie Kirk Allen and Mr. Joel Allen Sr. in Columbia, S.C. A Time to Live: Mr. Allen was united in holy matrimony to Jeannette Alderman on Aug. 14, 1972. A Time to Serve: He graduated from high school in Columbia, S.C. Immediately after graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served his country for four years. Upon leaving the military, he worked as a conductor for Grand Trunk Western Railroad in Detroit, Mich., for 30 years. After his retirement from the railroad, he moved to Valdosta. He obeyed the gospel and became a member at Forrest Park Church of Christ. A Time to Die: On Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, God called him from labor to reward. he leaves to mourn: a devoted, loving wife, Jeannette Alderman; one son, Anthony R. (Patricia) Allen of Detroit, Mich.; one daughter, Patricia Truitt of Chicago, Ill.; four stepsons, Willie James (Annie Lee) Alderman, Donald (Carolyn) Green, Antonio (Tammie) Green and Keith Green, all of Valdosta; two stepdaughters, Bonita (Ruebin) Howell and Hilda Hollis, both of Valdosta; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Brown of Valdosta; one uncle, Turner J. Copeland of Valdosta; one aunt, Mary Williams of Valdosta; 25 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special thanks to the employees of the Pearlman Cancer Center, Hospice and family members who helped provide care for him during his illness. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Forrest Park Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. L.B. Daniels

Bishop L.B. Daniels, 69, resided 918 Bunche Dr., passed this life Dec. 22, 2002, at the South Georgia Medical Center. He was born to the late Deacon L.B. Daniels Sr., and Mother Annie Mae Daniels Tooley. He accepted Christ at an early age as his Savior. He was affiliated with Sanctified Holiness Church of God without spot or wrinkle Organization. At the age of 17, he was called by God to preach the gospel. He ministered for 52 years. He took a special knowledge of assurance of Divine guidance and intervention, to take a stand in the community and bring people together in unity and Christian love. He was the pastor of Grace Victory Church and Good Hope Christian Church. He pastored Macedonia Holiness Church of God, New Mount Zion Temple in Jasper, Fla., Zion Temple Holiness Church in White Springs, Fla., and McCray Chapel of Olustee, Fla. ing Authority where he retired after 35 years. On July 5, 1950, he was united in marriage to the late Grace Donaldson. To this union eight children were born. In 1992, he was united in marriage to Montez Johnson. He leaves to lament his homegoing a loving and devoted wife, Montez Daniels of Valdosta; a loving mother, Mother Annie Mae Daniels Tooley; six sons and two daughters, Charles (Ruth), Robert (Alberta), Peggy (Brooks), Jerry (Clary), Mary, Chandler (Brenda), Tony (Emmagene), Moses (Victoria), all of Valdosta; three stepchildren, Marieh, Redessa (Ralph), Carol (Marcus); 16 grandchildren, four step grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Eloise Welcome (Willy); three aunts; one uncle, H.B. Hezekiah (Mable), John Wesley Hezekiah (Ruby), Charles Herzekiah (Peggy), and one sister-in-law, Peggy Seward; Grace Victory Church family and Good Hope Church family; also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Grace Victory Church, and Minister Robert Daniels will officiate and burial to follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Charles Franklin Dennis Sr.

Charles Franklin Dennis Sr., 62, of Lake Park, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at the VA Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. He was born on Jan. 30, 1940, in Lowndes County to the late George R. and Remmie Mae Terrell Dennis. Mr. Dennis was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad. Survivors include his wife, Linda Dennis of Lake Park, daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Howard Corbett of Lake Park; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Jr., and Connie Dennis of Lake Park; seven sisters and four brothers-in-law, Doris Detwiler of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Ruth and Reid Goodwin of Lake Park, Mildred and Fred Maxwell of Jacksonville, Fla., Roberta Saunders, Dorothy and James Rogers, Mollie and Randall Sauls, and Kathy Booth, all of Lake Park, four brothers and sisters-in-law, S.E. and Clara Dennis of Lake Park, John Eston and Burnell of Nashville, James and Marie Dennis, Richard and Bonnie Dennis, all of Lake Park, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin Dennis and George Dennis. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, in the chapel of McLane Lakewood Funeral Home with the Rev. Edwin Lawrence

Edwin Arthur Lawrence, 67, of Lake City, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 25, at Hospice House Care Center in Gainesville, Fla., following a lengthy illness. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a retired truck driver. Mr. Lawrence was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife, Tonya Lawrence; two stepsons, Jason and Jaret Dawkins, all of Lake City, Fla.; three daughters, Diana Platt of Lake City, Fla., Margaret Lawrence of Springfield, Ma., and Gail Barrows of Richmond, Ky.; four sisters, Joyann Brett, Peggy Degroff, Barbara Blair and Jackie Quick; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, Fla. The family will receive friends between the hours of 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at Harry T. Deacon Green Edward Robinson

Services for Deacon Green Edward Robinson, the son of the late John Henry and Mary Robinson, was born May 23, 1917, in Madison County, Fla. He came to Brooks County as a young man and learned the barber trade. He owned and operated the Robinson’s Barber Shop at 117 Forsyth St. until he retired. He joined and became a faithful and dedicated member of Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He was president of the senior choir for 20 years, served as Sunday School superintendent, and was ordained as a deacon on May 15, 1965. He was chairman of the Deacon Board from 1

966 to 1985. He was united in holy matrimony with Juanita Williams of Quitman, Ga., on Dec. 25, 1960. He was a member of St. Paul Pallbearers Lodge No. 26, Walnut Hill Masonic Lodge No. 313 and the Outreach Missionary Society. He leaves to mourn his passing a loving and devoted wife, Juanita W. Robinson; one sister, Betty L. Tice of Madison County, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Connie Butts of Milledgeville, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Robert Tice officiating. Karlyn Lee Singletary

HOMERVILLE, Ga. — Karlyn Lee Singletary, 56, passed away suddenly Wednesday morning at her residence. A native of Ware County, she had lived in Orlando, Fla., before moving back to Homerville. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and was working at the Wal-Mart Store in Waycross as a customer service manager. Her parents are Mrs. Mary Alice Lee of Homerville and the late Robert Edward Lee Jr. Survivors other than her mother include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Susie Brown, Chad and Denise Brown, all of Homerville; one sister, Lois Corbitt of Homerville; and four grandchildren, Annelise, Meredith, Parker and Logan, and several other relatives. Memorial services for Ms. Singletary will be Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Homerville. Thomas L. Tompkins

Thomas L. Tompkins, 69, died Dec. 25, 2002, at his residence in Moultrie. He was born Sept. 15, 1933, in Colquitt County to the late Artie Tompkins and Evie Eldridge Tompkins. He was retired and a faithful member of Berlin Baptist Church. Survivors include Mary Alice Tompkins of Moultrie; one son, Richard Tompkins of Moultrie, one daughter, Kelly Griffin and husband Kim of Pavo; five brothers, Reacie Tompkins (Carolyn) of Centerville, Gene Tompkins (Joan) of Moultrie, Marion Tompkins (Patricia) of Valdosta, Elzie Tompkins (Glenda) of Monroe; Herschel Tompkins (Judy) of Albany; four sisters, Nadine Russell of Moultrie, Juanita VanAllen of Ellenton, Mary Dunn (Mark) of El Paso, Texas, and Barbara Spradley (Tommy) of Moultrie. William Randall Copeland

William Randall Copeland, 66, of Knoxville, Tenn., died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, after a lengthy illness. Funeral services are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by Carson McLane Funeral Home.

Ernestine Bennett Geiger, 84, of Ware County passed away in the Clinch Memorial Hospital in Homerville following a lengthy illness.
