Howard Lillis Lincoln

VALDOSTA — Howard Lillis Lincoln of Valdosta died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, after a lengthy illness. He was born on Sept. 18, 1920, in Tekema, Neb., the son of the late Laura Myrtle and Mark A. Lincoln. He grew up in Moline, Ill., and graduated from Moline High School in 1938. He completed his undergraduate degree from Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., and received his master’s degree from the University of Denver in Denver, Colo. Mr. Lincoln was a decorated veteran of World War II. He served in the 88th Infantry Division of the Fifth Army in Italy, and received his discharge as a captain in November 1945. He was a resident of Valdosta for 43 years. Mr. Lincoln retired from the faculty at Valdosta State College in August 1984. In 1987 and 1988, he and his wife Sarah served in mission work in Mandeville, Jamaica, through the Caribbean Missions Board. Mr. Lincoln was named an Outstanding Educator at Valdosta State College for both 1971 and 1972. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, elder and trustee. He was treasurer of Wheels for Missions and a past member of Valdosta Kiwanis Club. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Swindell Lincoln of Valdosta; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kathy Lincoln of Valdosta; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Buddy Coleman of Valdosta; one granddaughter, Kelly Coleman Call and husband Tom Call of Valdosta; three grandsons, Will Coleman of Boulder, Colo; Stephen Lincoln of Boulder; and Parker Lincoln of Valdosta; and one great-granddaughter Chandler Anne Call. He is also survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Tru Lincoln of Monument, Colo.; one sister and brother-in-law, Patti and Tim Perior of Northridge, Calif.; sister-in-law, Ruby Swindell of Jacksonville, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in the McLane Chapel with the Rev. Ben Konopa and the Rev. Steven Jones officiating. Entombment will be held in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Larry Floyd Mikell

RAY CITY — Larry Floyd Mikell, 47, of Ray City, died on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on Dec. 30, 1953, in Hamilton County, Fla., to the late Clem and Verdia Hayes Mikell. Mr. Mikell was a quality control supervisor for Chaparral Boats. He is survived by his wife, Sue Mills Mikell of Ray City; two sons, Shawn Mikell of Ray City, Deric Mikell of Valdosta; one grandson, Kevin Austin Mikell of Lakeland; five sisters, Kathleen Powers, Laverne Gibbs, both of Valdosta, Dorothy McGeown, Gainesville, Fla., Faye Jernigan, Alapaha, and Marsha Stanley of Ray City. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Gibbs and the Rev. Warren Chesser officiating. Burial will be held in New Ramah Cemetery in Ray City. Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. today with the family receiving friends from 7-9 p.m. — Lovein Funeral Home, Nashville



Ruth Riddick

VALDOSTA — Ruth Riddick, 95, of Valdosta, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on June 2, 1906, in Sessoms to the late Harry and Eula Lovett Riddick and had lived in Valdosta for many years. Miss Riddick had worked with the accounting and finance office at Moody Air Force Base for many years and was a Baptist. Survivors include a sister, Brownley Riddick Petrasek of Valdosta; cousins, Tommy Riddick of Manitoba, Canada, Walter Lovett of Orlando, Fla., and Pat Lovett of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a special friend, Madavern Davis of Valdosta. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. today in Sunset Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Biff Coker officiating. — Carson McLane Funeral Home

TMAN — Joseph Harris Wheeler Sr., 40, of Quitman, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Brooks County Hospital. A lifelong resident of Brooks County, he was the son of William Allen Wheeler Sr. and Ernestine Jamison Bateman. He was a self-employed carpenter and a member of the Pentecostal Church. He is survived by his mother, Ernestine (Robert) Bateman of Quitman; his father, William Wheeler of Quitman; one son, Joseph Harris Wheeler Jr. of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Lynn Jones of Quitman, Missy Eikenberry of Almogordo, N.M.; one brother, Allen Wheeler of Quitman; maternal grandmother, Virginia Crosby of Quitman; three stepsisters, Kristi Hall of Quitman, Jodi Crespo of Quitman, Amy Hart of Quitman; one stepbrother, Brandon Bateman of Valdosta; nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Raymond Gabbard and the Rev. Loren Hildebrant officiating.
