Evelyn Saunders Austin
TALLAHASSEE–Evelyn Saunders Austin, 80, of Tallahassee, and formerly of Valdosta, died in Tallahassee on Sept. 3, 2001. Born in Aberdeen, NC on June 7, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Banks Brandon Saunders, Sr. and Ora Byrd Saunders. A homemaker, Mrs. Austin was the widow of George Jefferson Austin, Jr., M.D. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Valdosta and the South Georgia Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Sharon Austin of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, hazel Austin of Tallahassee, FL., and a nephew, Tom Austin of Enterprise, Alabama. Graveside services for Mrs. Austin will be held at 11 a.m., Sept. 6, at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Donald F. Stanley will officiate. Thelma McAfee Bloodworth
VALDOSTA–Thelma McAfee Bloodworth, 84, of Valdosta, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001 at her residence. She was born on March 28, 1917 in Grady County, to the late Rubin and Mattie Alred McAfee. She was retired from food service with the Valdosta City Schools and a member of Forrest Street Church of God. Survivors include four sons and four daughters-in-law, Lester Lamar and Gladys Bloodworth of Valdosta, Earl and Gladys Bloodworth of Pikeville, TN. Leroy and Connie Bloodworth of Florence, S.C., Gordon and Glenda Bloodworth of Nairobi, Kenya; two daughters and one son in law, Maritha and Danny Lockerby of Orange Park, and Carolyn Bloodworth Nicolet of Bremerton, WA; one sister, Bertha Lee (Mrs. John Wesley) Owens of Putney; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Sept. 8, at Forrest Street Church of God with the Rev. Wayne Hughes officiating. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. Sept. 8, in Riverside Cemetery in Albany. Melba L. Brown
Melba L. Brown, 74, Bennett Road, Orlando, died Sept. 4, 2001. A waitress, she was born in Montgomery, Ala., and moved to Central Florida in 1960. She was a Baptist. Survivors are three sons, Johnny Brown, Virginia, Rick Brown, Virginia, and Dan Brown, North Carolina; a daughter, Sara Cavone, Winter Springs; three brothers, Manly Lee, Bernacillo, N.M., Rayford Lee, Tallahassee, Alabama; James Lee, Montgomery, Ala.; five sisters, Edna Ruth Norsworthy, Luverne, Ala., Betty Jean Staggers, Luverne, Ala., Ora Mae Jordan, Troy, Ala., Evalane Nussbaum, Valdosta, Ga., Marjorie Hughes, Greenville, Ala.; and 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. — Family Funeral Care, Orlando
John David Copeland, 68, died at his Lake Park residence on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 8, at Francis Lake Baptist church, burial will follow in Benevolence Cemetery. The visitation will be held Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home.
Charity Peters Cowart
TALLAHASSEE–Charity Peters Cowart, 93, of Tallahassee passed away Aug. 31, 2001. A native of Bemiss, Ga., she had resided in Tallahassee since 1936. She was employed at Mae’s Shop in Tallahassee for 30 years, then was self employed with the Carriage Shop for 10 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ on Timberlane Rd. She is the daughter of the late John Daniel Peters and Susie Robinson Peters. Charity was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Cowart, her son; Ralph Cowart, her sister; Mildred Ethel Peters Copeland, her brother; James Emery Peters and her cousins; Jesse and Sally W. Davis. She is survived by Nieces and nephews; David and May Copeland, Jake and Bashie Copeland, Robert and Joyce Copeland Carlton and Linda Copeland Kenneth and Carolyn Copeland Jackson and Almarene Copeland Dawkins; grandson John Cowart of Tallahassee, great-grandson John Jordan, nephew; Melvin and Beverly S. Peters, sister-in

LITCHFIELD, IL.–Violet Eileen Felkel, 92, of Litchfield, IL., passed away Sept. 2, 2001 at St. Francis Hospital, Litchfield. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Felkel, Sr. and she is survived by her two sons; Ernest G. Felkel, Jr. and wife, Anna of Hartford, IL., James C. Felkel and wife, Bonnie of Valdosta; one sister, Velma Caldwell, Hartford, IL., grandchildren; Carol Maguire and husband, Daniel, Elsberry, MO, Roger Felkel and wife, Sherrie, of Valdosta, Mary Sidwell and husband, Dennis, Alton, IL., David Felkel and wife, Julie, Bethalto, IL., Matthew Felkel and wife, Janna, of Valdosta; 2 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Lessie Nona Luke, age 97 of Nashville, died Wednesday in the Berrien Co. Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Lovein Funeral Home.
Dorothy Lucille Minton, 81, Statenville, died Wednesday after an extended illness. Services will be Friday at 3 p.m. at the Statenville Baptist Church with burial in the Statenville Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home.
Jewell Kemp Mitchell
VALDOSTA–Jewell Kemp Mitchell, 69, of Valdosta, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born on March 14, 1932 in Jennings, to the late Perry and Irene Simpson Kemp. She was a waitress and a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters and three son-in-law, Linda and James Griffin, Wanda and Jerry Tison, Kim and Don Wardwell, all of Valdosta; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Teresa Kemp of Valdosta, Harold Kemp of Pinetta, Elwood Kemp of Valdosta; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and two aunts, Doris Hunter of Jennings, Nadine Patterson of Quitman. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Frankie Kemp. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Sept. 9, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. and Mrs. Austin Williams and Pastor Sonya Payne officiating.
