Walter J. Brown

DUPONT — Walter J. Brown, 56, of DuPont, passed away Thursday afternoon at the South Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Berrien County, he had lived in Ware County and in DuPont for the last year. He was a master certified logger and was the son of the late Manning S. Brown and Pinkie Sweat Brown. Survivors are his wife, Linda Register Brown, DuPont; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Charlotte and Lee Paulk, Streetman, Texas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Susie Brown and Chad and Denise Brown, all of Homerville; four sisters, Blanche Hahn, Chalmette, La., Lucille Hancock, Nashville, Doris Abbott, Tifton, and Betty Johnson, Warner Robins; three brothers, Mack Brown and Herman Brown, DuPont, and Homer Brown, Midville; seven grandchildren and several other relatives. Funeral services for Mr. Brown will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Homerville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Falgout and the Rev. Ken Jones officiating. Burial will be held in the North Cemetery near Dupont. Mr. Brown will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today with visitation after 1 p.m. Mr. Brown will be carried to the church one hour prior to the services. — Roundtree Funeral Home



Sherry Dale Garvitte

ADEL — Sherry Dale Garvitte, 56, of Adel, passed away July 19, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Adel after a lengthy illness. She was born in Lanier County and had lived in Adel for most of her life. She was Baptist by faith. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Robin Dale Weeks. Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Sue Lindsey, Adel, Tina Garvitte, Sparks; two sons, Danny Garvitte, Suwannee, Fla., William D. Garvitte, Adel; nine grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Purvis Funeral Home with burial following in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Adel. Janice Kiser Johnson

NAHUNTA — Janice Kiser Johnson, 41, of Nahunta, died Friday morning, July 20, 2001, at her residence following a long illness. Mrs. Johnson was a native of Lowndes County, and a waitress and was of the Church of God faith. Her parents are James E. and Mildred Allbritton Kiser of Atlanta. She is survived by her husband, Emmitt “Joe” F. Johnson; one son, David E. Johnson, Witchita Falls, Texas; one daughter, Samantha J. “Lucy” Johnson, Nahunta; two stepdaughters, Lisa Medders (Lee), Sylvester and Jody Johnson, Moultrie; one stepgranddaughter, Kaylee Medders, also of Sylvester; one sister, Judy K. Lehman (Burley) of Atlanta; two nieces Leydia and Lara Lehman, both of Atlanta. Visitation will be Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Chambless Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Tatum officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in the Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta. Clarence Jordan

ADEL — Clarence Jordan, 73, of Adel, died July 20, 2001, at Memorial Convalescent Center after a short illness. He was born on May 29, 1928, in Gaston County, N.C., to the late Fred and Lottie Jordan. He lived most of his life in Cook County. Mr. Jordan was a member of Adel United Methodist Church and church choir, Keystone Sunday School Class and early morning prayer group; trumpet player; retired from Tift Aluminum Plant and a retired Methodist Minister. He is survived by his wife, Mayme Postell Jordan, Adel; one son, Harry Robert Jordan, Atlanta; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Linda Postell, Nashville, Tenn., Glenn and Denny Postell, Chipley, Fla.; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Judy and Bill Caskey, Decatur; one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Edith Jordan, Winston Salem, N.C.; one sister, Pearl Hinson, Charlotte, N.C.; sister-in-law, Margaret Jordan, Gastonia, N.C.; special nephew and





niece, Richard and Sandra Jordan, Gastonia, N.C.; eight stepgrandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Simmons Jordan, one step daughter, Janice Miller; three brothers, and two sisters. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Adel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Craig Hutto and the Rev. Tom Oliver officiating. Burial will be held in Lakeview Church Cemetery. Dennis V. Maloney

BARRETTS — Dennis V. Maloney, 28, of Barretts, passed away early Thursday morning, July 19, 2001, at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born in Jacksonville, Fla. He had lived in the Ray City area most of his life. He worked in construction work with Hahira Metal Works. Survivors are Melissa Bradford, Barretts; parents, Vernon and Edna Maloney, Ray City; sister, Lynn Raphael, Jacksonville, Fla.; brother, Russell W. Wyeoff, Orlando, Fla.; a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
