Donna Boone Curtis
VALDOSTA — Donna Boone Curtis, 63, of Valdosta, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002 after a short illness. She was born on Jan. 16, 1939, in Valdosta to the late Alton J. and Anna Regener Boone. She graduated from Valdosta High School and Valdosta State College and was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Barry and Mandy Boone of Lake Park; two grandchildren, Austin and Gaines Boone of Lake Park; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Melanie and Whitey Mauldin of Commerce, Cherylene and Bo Miller and Alana and Bob Folsom, all of Valdosta; one brother, Samuel J. Boone of Valdosta; two nieces, Michelle Moxley and Jennifer Miller of Valdosta; two nephews, Rob Folsom of Valdosta and Russ Folsom of Cummings. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Pieplow officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Mother Rossie Kelly Green
VALDOSTA — Mother Rossie Kelly Green, 68, died July 31, 2002 at her residence at 832 Brookwood Drive. Born Feb. 2, 1934, in Fargo to the late Benjamin Robinson and late Lillian Bryant Robinson. She was a resident of Valdosta and a cafeteria worker for the the Valdosta City School System. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Victory Revival Tabernacle Church and one of its founding members. She was an Ordained Mother of the church under the late Bishop Albert Bussey Sr. and served as General Regional Church Mother for 28 years. She was previously married to the late George Franklin Kelly Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Annetta Johnson, Yeshiva Smith-Robinson (Wilbert) both of Valdosta; two sons, Stanley Kelly (Sherrie) of Lakeland, Alphonso Kelly (Latrelle) of Morrow; four grandchildren, beloved grandson, Quin Kelly, beloved granddaughters, Lisa Renee Herndon, Erica Smith all of Valdosta and Erica Grier of Morrow; two great grandchildren, Nika and Devonney of Valdosta; four sisters, Pastor Wilma Bussey of Valdosta, Bennie Roberts of Reddick, Fla., Bobbie Lawhorn of Miami, Fla. and Shula Perry of Tampa, Fla.; two brothers, Ralph Roberson (Eddie) of Valdosta, Simon Roberson of Reddick, Fla.; four sisters-in-law, Rosemary Roberson of Atlanta, Doris Wright, Gloria Washington (Henry) all of High Springs, Fla., Patricia Fisher (Herbert) of Brooksville, Fla.; three brothers-in-law Rev. Earl Kelly (Ann) of Daytona, Fla., John Kelly (Gertie), Larry Kelly all of High Springs, Fla.; one aunt, Susie Simmons of Opa-Locka, Fla.; one special brother and nephew, Willie J. Roberson (Maggie) of Valdosta; one special niece and friend, Patricia Bussey Green; three special friends, Sister C. Washington, Betty Williams and Barbara Copeland, all of Valdosta; one care giver Sandra Peterson of Valdosta, and a host of step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Service will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Union Holiness Church with Elder Willie Fields and Elder Albert Bussey Jr. officiating. SPARKS — Avanell Griffin, 72, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at the Tift Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 24, 1939 in Berrien County to Dave Dales and Lula Stone. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carlie Homer Blanton, who died in 1987. She is survived by W.T. Griffin, Sparks; one daughter, Patricia Brady; one son, Hank Blanton, Albany; one sister, Doris Gray, Nashville; two brothers, Leroy Dales, Henry Dales, both of Nashville; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6 2002, at the the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Lawson and Rev. Johnny Smith officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. ed Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Brooks County Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Brooks County. She was the the daughter of James Benjamin and Belle Melton Byrd. She was a retired bookkeeper for Powell Farm Supply and a member of Quitman United Methodist Church. She issurvived by one son and daughter-in-law, William D. And Maria Long of Tallahassee; three grandchildren, William Joseph Long, Lucy Claire Long, and William David Long Jr.; and one brother, James Benjamin Byrd Jr. of St. Augustine, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband Harrell Long and son Jerry Long. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Quitman United Methodist Church with Rev. JENNINGS, FLA. — Annie Othel Head Mathis, 83, of Jennings, Fla., died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at the Suwannee Valley Nursing Center, Jasper, Fla. Born on Jan. 13, 1919, in Berrien County to Joe Singletary and Maggie Faulkner. She was a homemaker and member of the Vickers Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Head and Howard Mathis. She is survived one son and daughter-in-law, Lee David and Sarah Ball, Jennings, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Daphen (Brandon) Coleman, David Ray Ball, Priscilla (Mike) Wilson, Kelinda (Chris), Sheila Gonzalez, James Hoppy Ball, Lee Charlie Ball; two brothers, Willard Singletary and Leroy Singletary both of Sylvester. Graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the Vickers Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Robinson officiating. John Robert Sheets
VALDOSTA — John Robert Sheets of Valdosta, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2003, at his home after a short illness. He was born on Oct. 13, 1939 to John Robert and Lillian Elizabeth Sheets. Mr. Sheets retired from McDonnell-Douglas Corp. where her worked as a quality control engineer. He was member of Northside Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, helped with the Senior Adult Ministry, Sunday school teacher, he was a Hospice Volunteer Chaplain, Break Bread volunteer and a member of Harbor Lights Society. He also served in the U.S. Air Force. Survivors include his wife Dorothy Ard Sheets of Valdosta; daughter, and son-in-law, Kim and Mike Carey of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Michael L. and Teresa Sheets, Covington; six grandchildren, Melissa Sheets, Worton, Amy Sheets, Robert Sheets, Rachel Carey Craft, Amanda Carey, Rebekah Sheets; four great grandchildren, Brittany Worton, Brian Worton, Brookelynn Worton, Alexus Craft; mother and step father, Lillian and Ralph Burnett, Woodlawn, Ill.; stepchildren, Gary Ard, Ray City, Debra and Mickey Deloach, Valdosta, Gayle Ard Kovach, Somerville, S.C.; seven step grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James W. and Clora Dean Bradley, Houston, Texas; stepsister and step brother-in-law, Sandra and Truman Hart, Woodlawn, Ill. ADEL — Roy R. Baker, 85, of Adel passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 3, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Service will be held at Leila United Methodist Church in Omega at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jimmie Hinson and Frank Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. BLACKSHEAR — Funeral services for Mr. Robert Bentley, 53, will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Indian Mound Missionary Baptist Church near Manor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
