Nancy Griffin Barnes

VALDOSTA — Nancy Griffin Barnes, 66, of Valdosta died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born on Aug. 10, 1934, in Nashville to the late Foster and Ruby Taylor Griffin and had lived in Valdosta for 49 years. Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Lake Park. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Jed Allen; two sons and daughters-in-law, Hal and Darlene Barnes, Lee and Sandra Barnes, all of Valdosta; 10 grandchildren; and one great- grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Calvary Baptist Church in Lake Park with the Rev. Carlton Allen, the Rev. Jerry Knight and the Rev. Ronnie Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Cat Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at the funeral home. William Boyd Cunningham Jr.

TAMPA, Fla. — William Boyd Cunningham Jr., 67, Tampa, Fla. died Thursday, July 11, 2001, at his residence after a lengthy illness. Born in Brooks County, he was the son of William Boyd, Sr. and Myrle Williams Cunningham. He graduated from Barwick High School in 1951, and went on to join the U.S. Coast Guard where he served for 22 years before retiring. He is survived by his wife, Ann Cunningham of Tampa, Fla; two daughters, Cynthia Shannon of Coral Springs, Fla., Carolyn Keltch of Coral Springs, Fla.; two sons, Billy Cunningham, Summerfield, Fla., Michael Cunningham of Davie, Fla.; two step children, Keith Drewes of Tampa, Fla,. Shawn Schumaker of Brandon, Fla.; three grandchildren; three step grandchildren; two sisters, Carolyn Sleeth of Martinez, Ga. and Enola Gay Stone of Ashville, N.C. Military and Masonic graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2001 in Dixie Cemetery with the Rev. Ned Simmons officiating. Gary Fraser Deuley

LAKE PARK — Gary Fraser Deuley, 63, of Lake Park, died July 11, 2001, after a short illness. He had lived in Lake Park for the past 30 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Goldie Jane. He is survived by his father, Paul Deuley; brothers, Tom, John, and Bruce, all of Texas and Alan of Macon; a son, Guy Charles of Lake Park; and other children and grandchildren of Cleveland, Ohio. He was a retired member of the Outlaw Motorcycle Club. He owned and operated Val Motor And Service Up until a couple of years ago. He was an excellent Harley Davidson mechanic. Lowell T. Gibson

VALDOSTA — Lowell T. Gibson, 65, of Valdosta died suddenly Thursday, July 12, 2001. He was born on April 2, 1936, in Wayland, Ky., to the late Gomer and Maudie Gibson. Mr. Gibson was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was employed by Woodmen of the World Life Insurance, and of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Gibson of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Larry Williams, Brunswick; son, Len Gibson, Tallahassee; grandchildren, Krystin and Ashley Williams, Brunswick; Logan Gibson, Tallahassee; brother, Don Gibson, Mass.; brother and sister-in-law, Marcus and Donna Gibson, Louisville, Ky.; sister, Maxine Hall, Wayland, Ky.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and David Nolley, Louisville, Ky., Mary and Tom Van Voorhis, Apple Valley, Ohio, Delores and Paul Baker, Wayland, Ky.; brother-in-law, Billy Collins, Shelby, Ohio; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Sandra Willis, David and Barbara Willis; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Dennis Gibson and a sister Donna Collins. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today at the Passmore-Sumner Chapel with the Rev. Bill Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Goodhope Church Cemetery.

Evie Christine Hughes

NASHVILLE — Evie Christine Hughes, 83, of Nashville died Thursday July 12, 2001, at Tift Health Care. She was born on Nov. 18, 1917, in Dodge County to Sollie and Minnie Trippe Howell. She was a homemaker. She is survived by two daughters, Wanda Jean Musselwhite, Nashville, Jo Beth Webb, Tifton; two sons, William Bryant “Buddy” Gaskins, Jacksonville, Fla., Roger Howard Gaskins, Nashville; One sister, Louise Hughes, Nashville; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Williams and the Rev. Junior Swain officiating. Burial will be held in Westview Cemetery. Ethel McMillan

NASHVILLE –Ethel McMillan, 78, of Nashville died Thursday July 12, 2001, at Berrien County Hospital. She was born on Nov. 21, 1922, in Berrien County to the late Bethel and Abbie Alexander McMillan. She was a retired secretary and billing clerk for Nashville office of Georgia Power Co. and was a member of Nashville First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Karras, and a brother, Joe Wayne McMillan. She is survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Emily and E.T. Dawkins, Tallahassee, Fla., Ruby and Jack Rutherford, Douglas, Jean and Jim Lee, Newnan; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Raymond McMillan, Atlanta, Bethel and Martha McMillan, Jr., Jonesboro; and nephew, Mark Karras and family of Valdosta. Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Nashville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Williams and the Rev. Billy Southerland officiating. Thelma Tampas

VALDOSTA — Thelma Tampas, 84, of Valdosta died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on Sept. 19, 1916, in Alabama to the late John T. and Frances Burt Bradley. She had lived in Valdosta since childhood and was a member of the Episcopal Church. She and her husband, the late Nick Tampas, owned and operated the White House Restaurant in Valdosta for many years. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jake and Linda Tillman, Nicky and Barbara Tampas, and Tom Tillman, all of Valdosta; one daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Bobby Connell of Valdosta; grandchildren, Kim Tillman and Pam Bauer, Tina Wilson, Teri Verhine, Tim Tillman, Brittany Tampas, Lauren Tampas, Daniel Hesters, Katie Tillman, and Thomas Tillman; and seven great- grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husbands, E.J. (Jake) Tillman and Nick Tampas, one brother and four sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Minister Tommy Simpson officiating. VALDOSTA — Geraldine Bridges Walker, 66, of Valdosta died on July 11, 2001, at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on Dec. 3, 1934, in Lowndes County to the late Mr. Willie C. Bridges, Sr., and Mrs. Daisy Williams Bridges. She was employed as a nurse and was a member of Woodlawn Forest Church of Christ. She is preceded in death by her husband, Minister Henry L. Walker, Sr. She is survived by three daughters and son-in-law, Sherelda Tooley (Michael), Sancious Walker, Taunashia Walker, all of Valdosta; three sons and daughter-in-law, Calanthy Walker, Sr., Henry L. VALDOSTA — Mr. Leroy Wright, Sr., 81, of Valdosta died Tuesday, July 10, 2001. He was born on Feb. 22, 1920, in Cook County to the late Alex and Chaney Wright. He was retired from the Lowndes County School system and was a member of Irving Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his son Leroy Wright, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife, Lillar Mae Wright of Valdosta; four sons, Cornelious Wright of Lansing, Mich., Charlie Wright, Amos Wright (Janet), all of Valdosta, Jimmy Wright (Lyndia) of Panama City, Fla.; five daughters, Rena Morgan, Linda Faye Wright (Clinton), Sherri Robinson, all of Valdosta, Barbara Goss (Johnny) of Lansing, Mich., and Ernestine Wright (Calvin), Panama City, Fla.; 27 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; seven great-great- grandchildren; one brother, James Wright (Gloria), both of Jacksonville, Fla.; four sisters-in-law, Katie Wright, Essie Mae Seed, Leola Padilla, and Elizabeth Pierce, all of Valdosta; three brothers-in-law, Sherman Morrell of Lansing, Mich., the Rev. JASPER, Fla. — Aaron Lester “A.L.” Young, 66, of Jasper, Fla. passed away Friday, July 13, 2001, at his home following an illness of some time. The Georgia native was a long time resident of Jasper. He was a retired farmer and member of Jasper First Baptist Church. Mr. Young was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Neal Young. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, JoAnn McNeill Young, Jasper; three sons, Richard L. Young (Mantha), Jasper, Fla., Alan D. Young (April), Ellabelle, Ga. and John A. Young (Davina), Waycross; one daughter, Donna L. Beauchamp (Randy), Jasper, Fla.; one brother, Dr. Bill Young, Tallahassee, Fla.; three sisters, Sue Hill, Mary Naranjo and Helen Goolsby, all of Jasper, Fla.; 11 grandchildren.
