Ann Dunlap

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Mrs. Ann Myddelton Dunlap, 88, of 750 Myrtle Drive, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2002, at her home. Graveside service was held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Laurelwood Cemetery followed by a 3 p.m. memorial service at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church where Dr. William Pender and the Rev. Susan Denne officiated. A native of Valdosta, Mrs. Dunlap was the daughter of the late Archie Myddelton and the late Isma Myddelton. Mrs. Dunlap was preceded in death by her husband, George Williams Dunlap. She graduated from Valdosta High School and the University of Georgia where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She taught Physical Education at Rock Hill High School. She was a member of the Rock Hill Junior Welfare League, The Debutante Club, The Trillium Garden Club and a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sheppie Dunlap Williams and Richy Williams of Rock Hill; her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Anne McKinnon Bishop and Teddy Bishop of Charleston, S.C.; and her sister, Adair M. Nunnally of Valdosta. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at the home of her daughter at 925 Myrtle Drive. Family requests memorials be sent to: The George W. and Ann M. Roger D. Raines

LAKE PARK — Roger D. Raines, 54, of Lake Park, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born in Albany on Feb. 9, 1948, to Clayton M. and Pearl Newell Raines of Sylvester. He had lived in this area all of his life and was a member of the Harvest Church of God. He is survived by his parents; his wife, Tena Crumley Raines; two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Jeff Gardner of Lacrosse, Wis., Candy and Jason Ferguson of Macon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Andy and Becky Pearson, Richard D. and Susan Raines, all of Valdosta; four grandchildren, Alee Gardner, Briana Gardner, Rebecca Raines, Faith Pearson; and one brother, Ronald Raines of Sylvester. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, July 26, 2002, at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home, Lake Park, with the Rev. George Ehling and the Rev. Carlton Allen officiating. John ‘Edsel’ Rountree

ADEL — John “Edsel” Rountree, 76, of Adel, died July 24, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Adel after a long illness. He was born on Oct. 17, 1925, in Adel to the late Thomas “Tom” and Nellie Jane Chafin Rountree. He lived in Cook County all of his life. He was a retired farmer, Army veteran of WWII and was a member and deacon of Evergreen Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one brother, Halbert Rountree, and one granddaughter, Kris Whitaker. He is survived by his wife, Belle Smith Rountree of Adel; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chip and Carol Rountree and Jimmy and Diane Rountree, all of Adel; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nell and Larry Moore of Bessemer, Ala., Monese and Scotty Whitaker of Adel, Linda and Robert Strickland of Lake Park; six grandsons; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; six sisters, Irene Wells, Mary Pearl Rountree, both of Adel, Ida Carter, Valdosta, Inez Thomas, Maggie Mae Whitehurst, both of Adel, and Robbie Nell Ondick of Winter Park, Fla. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Evergreen Baptist Church with the Rev. John Gibbs and the Rev. Wayne Boykin officiating. Burial will be held in Rountree Cemetery. Bertha Lee McAfee Owens

a Lee McAfee Owens, 81, of Valdosta, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Liberty Parkway Church of God with the Rev. Henry Rutledge, the Rev. W.A. Bingham and the Rev. Bobby L. Fryer officiating. Burial will be held in Crown Hill Cemetery. A native of Grady County, Mrs. Owens had lived in Albany most of her life moving to Valdosta in April of this year. She was a member of Liberty Parkway Church of God and was retired from Flint River Textile Mills and a member of the Golden Key Club at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Jean Jones. Survivors include her husband, John Wesley Owens of Valdosta; three daughters and sons-in-law, Leverne and Joe Crosby of Valdosta, Lanelle and Martin Wheelis of Jacksonville, Fla., Wanda and Dan Bass of Marietta; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Sue Owens of Bloomingdale; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Josephine Graham Chaudoin, 81, of Louisville, Ky., and formerly of Valdosta, died Monday in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, July 29, 2002, in the Magnolia Room Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with burial to follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Ben Mack, 62, veteran, of Lakeland, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 27, 2002, at the Lanier County High School gymnasium. Min. Clark Hardwick will officiate. Maude Newman, 89, of Nashville, died Wednesday at the residence of her daughter, Barbara Kirkland. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Lovein Funeral Home, Nashville.



Alice Woods, 91, of Valdosta, passed this life on July 19, 2002, at the Heritage House Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Lee Street Seventh Day Adventist Church and Pastor Shimon Taylor and Benjamin Newton will officiate and burial to follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
