Mario R. “Chic” DiMascio

Mario R. “Chic” DiMascio, 79, of Valdosta died suddenly on Saturday, May 25, 2002. He was born in Philadelphia, Penn., but had made Valdosta his home for the past 60 years. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1940 and served in the European Theater during World War II as communications chief on a B-17 bomber. He received an honorable discharge in 1945 and continued to serve in the Air Force Reserves until 1952. A charter member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church, he held many offices, including treasurer and Superintendent of Sunday School. He was also a member of numerous other committees, including the Building Committee, during his almost 50-year membership. As a local businessman, he was owner and operator of Chic’s Radio and TV Service until his retirement in 1985, althouth he remained involved in the business until his death. An avid golfer, he was an active member of the Valdosta Country Club Men’s Senior Golf Association, the South Georgia Men’s Senior Golf Association, and the Valdosta County Club, where he had served as a member of the Board of Directors. DiMascio is survived by his wife of 59 years, Hallie Hinshaw DiMascio, and four children, Dr. Lynne Feldman and Greg and Angela DiMascio of Valdosta, Michael and Jane DiMascio of Ocoee, Fla., and Toni and Vernon Twitty of Camilla; 10 grandchildren, Adam Feldman, Amy Feldman, Stephanie DiMascio Herndon, Virginia DiMascio, Victoria DiMascio, Tony DiMascio, Kimberly DiMascio, Elizabeth DiMascio, Leigh Twitty, Trey Twitty; his sister-in-law Elva DiMascio of Broonall, Penn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.C. DiMascio and his brother Anthony C. DiMascio of Philadelpia, Penn. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, at Sunset Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Craig Rikard officiating. The family will receive friends at the McLane Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. this evening. In lieu of flowers, donations to a favorite charity are encouraged. — Carson McLane Funeral Home



Kevin T. Caughlin

Kevin T. Caughlin, 48, of Valdosta died Friday, May 24, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center. Caughlin was a longtime resident of Valdosta and the son of the late Michael J. and Noreen Marion Potts Caughlin. He attended Valdosta High School and owned and operated Sullivan Traps and Ornamental Iron for many years. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Michael J. Caughlin of Chevy Chase, Md., Pat Volz of Wareton, N.J., Bill Caughlin on Julian, Calif., Mari Beth Bennett of Haverhill, Mass., and John P. Caughlin of Cave Creek, Ariz. A commerorative mass for family and friends will be held at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Alvin J. “Buck” Castleberry, 85, of Lenox passed away Sunday, May 26 at home following a lengthy illness. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. — Purvis Funeral Home of Adel
