Mary Sue Clements

VALDOSTA — Mary Sue Clements, 85, of Valdosta and formerly of Hahira, died on Thursday, April 10, 2003, in a local nursing home. Born on September 19, 1917, in Cooper, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Myrtle Young Chandler. Mrs. Clements was a member of the First Church of The Nazarene.

Survivors are her sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond E. and Shelia Riddle of Albertville, Ala., Rex and Barbara Riddle of Malakoff, Texas, Gary D. and Mary Riddle of Kaufman, Texas, Lorin and Vickie Riddle of Barney; daughters and sons-in-law, Lila and Ben Mack of Deltona, Fla., Tommie S. and Vernon Russ of Hahira, Laverne and Bill Smith of Vero Beach, Fla.; 23 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Pastor Brian Sayre will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6- 8 p.m. — Carson McLane Funeral Home



C.P. Cowart

CAMILLA — C.P. Cowart, 85, of Camilla died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Woodlands Nursing Home in Moultrie.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2003 at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home with the Rev. Thad Marshall and the Rev. Travis Cowart officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. in Friendship Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Hahira.

Active pallbearers include Christopher Cowart, Brian Anglin, Cliff Willis, Ronald Cowart, Steve Couch, and Gene Chambliss. Pelham Senior Center members are honorary pallbearers.

Born Nov. 26, 1917, in Lyons Ga., Mr. Cowart was a retired meat cutter and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Cowart was a member of Friendship Primitive Baptist Church. He was married to the late Geraldine Bass Cowart and was preceded in death by a son, Sampson Cowart.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Gloria Cowart of Savannah; four grandchildren, Cynthia Maloy of Thomasville, Tracy Willis of Moultrie, Christopher Cowart of Atlanta, and Sandy Cowart of Atlanta; and four great-grandchildren, Phalyn Anglin, Brian Anglin, Makenzy Willis and Madison Willis.

Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. this evening at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home in Camilla.

Kathryn Boggus Hogan

QUITMAN — Kathryn Boggus Hogan, 83, of Quitman died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Born in Fitzgerald, Ga., she was the daughter of John and Avaline Boggus. Mrs. Hogan was a homemaker, volunteered at Brooks County Hospital as a Pink Lady, and was a member of the Quitman First Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Mike Hogan of Valdosta, Ancel Hogan of Quitman; three grandchildren, Tyler Hogan of Lake Park, Lindsay (Cory) Butler of Boston, Ga., Ryan Hogan of Valdosta, and one brother and sister-in-law, LaVoye and Ina Mae Boggus of Live Oak, Fla. She was preceded in death by three sisters and her husband Jimmy Hogan.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12 2003, in Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Renfro officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6:30-8 p.m. — Maxwell-Miller funeral Home, Quitman



Mary L. Moore-Kennedy

OCALA, Fla. — Funeral services for Mrs. Mary L. Moore-Kennedy, 96, of Ocala, Fla., who died on Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Sylvia’s Hospice House in Ocala, will be held, today, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with burial at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Born in Valdosta on August 3, 1906, she was the daughter of the late James Huey and Sarah Elizabeth Graddy Hodges. Formerly of Miami, Fla., she had made her home in Ocala 13 years ago. She was a Methodist.

Survivors are her daughters, Barbara Moore-Johnson of Okeechobee, Fla., Betty Moore-Frankfurt of Palo Alto, Calif.; sister, Elma Hodges and niece, Evelyn Mosely of Ocala; 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, seven great- great- grandchildren. Mrs. Moore-Kennedy was preceded in death by her first husband, Cleon A. Moore, Sr. and her second husband, Snyder Kennedy; sons, Cleon A. Moore, Jr. and James Eugene Moore; daughter, Helen Eloise Moore, brother, James Hodges; sister, Emmie Prosser.

Allen Lasseter

VALDOSTA– Allen Lasseter, 81, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born the son of the late Dr. John Robert and Mary Susan Crymes Lasseter on Dec. 18, 1921, in Nashville, Ga., he was a lifetime resident of the Valdosta area. Mr. Lasseter was a toolmaker, retired from ITT, a WWII Navy Veteran, member of the American Legion and member of St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church.

Survivors are his wife, Ann Lasseter of Valdosta, sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Penny Lasseter of Nashville, Robert David and Melanie Lasseter of Valdosta; sister-in-law, Clara Lasseter of Nashville; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Rob, Crymes, Emory and Fain Lasseter, and one sister, Herman Roland.

Services will be held on Saturday at 12 noon at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. The Reverend John O’Brien, The Reverend Marvin LeFrois and The Reverend Robert Willis will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. A Rosary will be held on this evening at 7 p.m. followed by visitation until 9 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Willie Lee Taylor Jr.

VALDOSTA — Willie Lee Taylor Jr., the son of the late Willie and Ida Taylor, was born on April 19, 1949 in Alma, Ga. He departed this life late Saturday night on April 5, 2003. He was a graduate from Bacon County High School in 1966 and went on to attend Savannah State College. He was united in marriage to Ruby Jean Mabry on Aug. 15, 1969. On March 22, 1971, he enlisted into the United States Air Force.

Technical Sergeant Willie Lee Taylor devoted over 20 years of faithful military service. During his years of service, he earned many awards including five Good Conduct Medals, two Air Force Commendation Medals, and Outstanding Unit Award, two National Defense Service Medals, an Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, two Overseas Long Tour Ribbons, and four Longevity Service Award Ribbons. He traveled extensively to include duty stations such as Texas, Kentucky, Arkansas, North Carolina, Turkey, California, and Japan. He retired from Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta. His last occupation was a correctional officer in Douglas. He redirected his life to Christ on June 11, 2000 and became a member of Greater Pleasant Temple.

Willie leaves to cherish his beautiful memories a loving, devoted wife, Ruby Jean Taylor of Valdosta; three daughters, LaSonya Patrice Taylor (Derek) of Oakland, Calif., Monique Lanell Taylor (Fred) of Virginia Beach, Va., Malissa LaNette Mills (Rodney) of Fort Hood, Texas; one sister, Gwendolyn Gleason (Alfred) of St. Louis, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Dominique, Terrell, Joshua, Levonte, Derek, Faith, Grace, Donyeah; mother-in-law, Janie M. King of Jesup; father-in-law, Willie Mabry (Eva) of Alma; two aunts, Melissa Burch of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Martel Prater Holloway of Oakland, Calif.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2003, at greater Pleasant Temple Baptist Church with Dr. Ronnie J. Mathis officiating. Burial will follow in Moore Cemetery in Ware County.– Harrington Funeral Home



Barney Thomas Jr.

VALDOSTA — Bro. Barney Thomas, Jr., 61, died April 7, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center.

He was born on Sept. 4, 1941 in Albany, Ga. to the late Barney Thomas, Sr. and Fannie Mae Louden. He was educated in the Valdosta City Schools and was employed by Owen Illinois Paper Mill, (currently Packaging Corporation of American in Clyattville, Ga.) and was a member of Day Spring Baptist Church and Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Frankie Thomas.

Bro. Barney Thomas, Jr. leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife of 43 years, Wynell Gaines Thomas; his step mother, Mattie Wrentz; five sisters, Adel Lewis (Henry) of Dawson, Charlie M. Martin of Tampa, Fla., Willie M. Ward of Baconton, Ga., Hattie I. Warren of Valdosta and Joe Ann Louden of Tampa, Fla.; one brother, Curtis Thomas, Sr. (Barbara) of Lawton, Okla.; four sisters-in-law, Juanita Wilkes of Jamaica, N.Y., Clar B. Evans, of New York, N.Y., Annie Grace Williams (Bredell), Waco, Texas and Mary C. Thomas of Valdosta; one brother-in-law, Jack E. Gaines, Sr. of Valdosta; two aunts, Lucy Carter and Betty Acree and one uncle, James Acree, all of Albany; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Morning Star Baptist Church and the Rev. William C. Morgan will officiate. Burial will follow in Charles Knight Cemetery. — Harrington Funeral Home



Oscar E. Marable, 69, passed away April 7, 2003, at Fellowship Nursing Home, in Valdosta. He resided at 405 S. Forrest St. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2003, at Macedonia First Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. W.J. Weldon, 77, of Lake Park died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced by the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home.



Mary Nelle White DeRuyter, 77, Springfield, Mo., died Wednesday night at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Tom Warren. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at their home, 5 St. Andrews Circle, Valdosta. memorial plans will be announced by Carson-McLane Funeral Home.
