Harry Worthington Burch
VALDOSTA — Harry Worthington Burch, 70 of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, May 7, 2003 at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. He was born in Hudson, N.Y. on May 25, 1932 to the late Ward and Martha Bishop Burch. Mr. Burch moved to Valdosta in 1996. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Burch, Valdosta; sons, Michael Burch, Pine Plains, N.Y., Mitchell Burch, Philmont, N.Y., Edward Burch, Tewksbury, Mass., Steven Burch, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Ralph Burch, Twin Lakes, N.Y.; daughter, Susan Hull, Germantown, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, David Burch.
Mr. Burch will be cremated. Services will be private and held at the discretion of the family at a future date.– Carson McLane Funeral Home
Mrs. John D. (Glen M.) Roan Sr.
Mrs. John D. (Glen M.) Roan Sr., age 86 of 1543 Hwy. 18, Concord, Ga., passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at the Pike Manor.
Mrs. Roan was born in Faulkville, Ala., on March 3, 1917, to the late Asa Brindley Murphree and the late Nannie Mae Baine Murphree. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John D. Roan Sr., who passed away in 1993; and her son-in-law, Jon Goldman, who passed away in 1998. Mrs. Roan was a member of the Concord Baptist Church, The Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and the Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Roan taught English at the Concord High School from 1941 to 1959, from 1959 to 1979 she taught reading and speech at the Naples High School in Naples, Fla., after her retirement in 1979 she resumed her teaching career in Naples, Fla., from 1980 to 1990 teaching English as a second language at Naples High School before returning to Concord, Ga.
Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Glenda Roan Goldman of Concord; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John D. and Chris Roan Jr. of Valdosta, Ga.; grandchildren, Stacey and Keith Jackson of Concord, Deidre and Scott Holliday of Zebulon, Tiffany and Keith Robbins of Atlanta, Jessica Roan of Charleston, S.C., and Molly Roan of Valdosta; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Sarah Jackson, Liam and Isabella Holliday; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Opal and Clay Oxford of Zebulon, and Mitchell Roan of Thomaston; nieces and nephews, Barbara and Kenneth Wright of Conyers, Susan and Walter Smith of Thomaston, and Billy and Merrill Roan of Thomaston.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, May 11, 2003, at 3 p.m. at the Concord Baptist Church. Rev. Doug Ledford, Rev. Bob McCombs and Rev. Billy Lawrence will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mount Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Saturday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Roan will be carried to the church to lie in state from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour.

Elaine Kemp Turner, 84, Pelham
PELHAM — Elaine Kemp Turner, 84, of Pelham died on May 8, 2003, at Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville.
She was born on Sept. 5, 1918 in Meigs to the late Herbert Leroy Kemp Sr. and Clyde McCord Kemp. Mrs. Turner was a retired teacher and homemaker, member of Pelham Business Women’s Civic Club, and a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Moultrie. She is preceded in death by her husband William Rudolph Turner Sr. whom she married on Nov. 16, 1946; three brothers, Herbert Kemp Jr., Tom Kemp and Bill Kemp.
Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, William “Bill” Rudolph Turner Jr. of Pelham, Edward Slade and Lynne Turner of Brunswick; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rose Elaine and Kenny West of Pelham, Sarah Sue and David Moorer of Valdosta; three granddaughters and two grandsons-in-law, Michelle Elaine West Catrett and husband Jason Catrett, Pelham, Kerri West Sellers and husband Matthew Sellers, Pelham and Lindsey Moorer of Valdosta; six grandsons, Josh Moorer, Jeremiah Moorer of Valdosta, Slade Turner and James Turner of Brunswick, Seth Moorer of Valdosta; one sister Mrs. Mildred Hurst of Albany, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Madison Elaine Catrett and Sydney Margaret Catrett, both of Pelham.
Graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2003 in Pelham Cemetery with Father Chuck Bennett officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. — Braswell Funeral Home, Pelham
Elder Ousley Williams, Jr.
VALDOSTA — With God’s blessing, on April 30, 2003, the angel of death came to the home of Elder Ousley Williams Jr. and with chilling fingers and sealed his lips. He was born on Feb. 1, 1928, to the late Tean and Ousley Williams in Barwick, Ga. He was educated in the Valdosta public school system. He married his one and only love, Sis. Hattie Williams, a devoted wife from the beginning to the end. As an Army veteran, he served honorably in Korea and earned many awards. A born again Christian, he was ordained into the Ministry in 1964 and pastored at the Zion Gospel Church until his death. He was a loyal and dedicated child of God.
He leaves behind his most cherished loved ones: his wife Hattie L. Williams; a step mother, Harriet Williams of St. Louis, Mo.; a brother, Willie Lee Daniels of New York City; and a sister, Renee Burston of St. Louis, Mo. He also leaves three godchildren; nephew and family, James Williams of Minneapolis, Minn.; immediate cousins; Ruby Hughley of Valdosta, Mattie Nelom, (also born on Feb. 1, 1928) of Jamaica, N.Y., Janice Williams of Detroit, Mich., Mable Sanders of Miami, Fla., Mack Sloan and Sadie Pinkney of Boynton Beach, Fla., Floyd Sloan of Miami, Fla.; and a host of other nieces nephews and sorrowing friends.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2003 at Tabernacle Church of God and Christ. Superintendent Johnny E. Bradley Pastor, Elder Jerry Green presiding, Elder Harry Campbell officiating. Burial will be held in Sunset Hill Cemetery. — Stevens Funeral Home
Funeral services for Mrs. Alberta “Sister” Clemons, age 62, of Lovett, Fla., will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Bethel A.M.E. Church in Quitman with Rev. Benny Boatman officiating. Burial will follow in the Pineview Cemetery in Quitman, Ga. Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home of Quitman is in charge of the arrangements.
Lucy S. White, 89, passed this life May 6, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Sunset Hill cemetery. Bro. Leon Dye will officiate. — Final rites are entrusted to Harrington Funeral Home
