Gregory Lynn Adams
BARNEY — Gregory Lynn Adams, 22, of Barney, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Emory University Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born on Jan. 29, 1981, in Chicago, and had lived in this area for many years. Mr. Adams was a student at Valdosta State University and employed at Automated Medical Systems. He was Catholic. Survivors include his parents, Roger and Mary Adams of Barney; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Audrey Adams of Barney, Agnes and Steven Rowland of Valdosta, and Yolanda Adams of Valdosta. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2003, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Father John O’Brien officiating. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today and a rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2003, at the funeral home. — Carson McLane Funeral Home.
Barbara Chandler
VALDOSTA — Barbara Chandler, 62, of Valdosta, died at her home in Valdosta on March 5, 2003. Born in Glendale, W. Va., on May 6, 1940, the daughter of Morris and Evelyn Clark, she made her home in Valdosta since 1969 and was employed with Specialty Supply Corp. She was a member of First Christian Church. Survivors are her husband, Richard Chandler of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Richard M., Jr., and Dawn Chandler of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughter, Sheila Anne Chandler of Valdosta; sister, Lois Strother of Omaha, Neb.; brother, James Clark of Oak Island, N.C.; mother, Evelyn Clark of Oak Island, N.C.; grandchildren, Caroline Denise and Coleman Blake Chandler and Jared and Adam Setser. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Corinne Yvonne Setser. A memorial service will be held at a later date. — Carson McLane Funeral Home.
Helen Sirmans Herring
VALDOSTA — Helen Sirmans Herring, 73, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, March 6, 2003, at Smith Northview Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Nashville on Feb. 24, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Karey C. and Esther Webb Plymel. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Survivors are her husband, Remer Herring, of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Billy Evans of Macon; two grandchildren, Sherry (Chris) Berry of Atlanta and Ashley Evans of Macon; two great-grandchildren; stepsons, Bill (Barbara) Herring of Valdosta and Tommy Herring of Valdosta; step-grandchildren, Gina Herring of Valdosta, Jessica Herring of Valdosta, and Mark Herring of Valdosta; sister and brother-in-law, Billy and Genez Turner of Panama City, Fla.; nieces, Ina DuPree, Faye Vaughn, Melody Pitts, and Carrie Kovach; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Bass of Valdosta. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Sirmans. Funeral services were held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the mausoleum at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. — Carson McLane Funeral Home.
Lonnie Richard Lane
VALDOSTA — Lonnie Richard Lane, 47, of Valdosta, and one of Mama’s 12 roses went to live with the Lord on Friday, March 7, 2003, after a short illness. He was born in Valdosta on Dec. 4, 1955, to James L. Lane and the late Lily Dickerson Lane and was a lifelong resident of Valdosta. Mr. Lane was a Christian and attended Pine Grove Community Baptist Church and was a self-employed landscaper. Survivors include his father, James L. Lane of Bemiss; six brothers and three sisters-in-law, Wayne and Pat Lane of Hahira, Jimmy and Delores Lane of Valdosta, Joe and Ellie Lane of San Antonio, Texas, Donnie Lane of Valdosta, Leslie Lane of Adel, Jesse and Tonya Lane of Valdosta; five sisters and five brothers-in-law, Brenda and J. C. Eason of Valdosta, Sue and Ed McLean of Valdosta, Myrtle and Robert Phiefer of Valdosta, Beth and Randy Moore of Valdosta, Lisa and Bob Mead of Valdosta; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Pine Grove Community Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Nelligan officiating. — Carson McLane Funeral Home.
Juanita “Tecie” Avriett Small
JASPER, FLA. — Juanita “Tecie” Avriett Small, 85, of Jasper, Fla., died Saturday, March 8, 2003, in a local hospital. Mrs. Small was a lifelong resident of Jasper, Fla., where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was the Past Worthy Matron of the order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 199, and served as State Committee Woman of the Hamilton County Democratic Executive Committee for over 30 years. She had retired from the States Attorney’s Office of Jerry Blair and also retired from Rep. Randy Mackey’s office. Survivors include her daughter, Judy Moore of Jennings, Fla.; her sister, Elizabeth Barrett of Jasper, Fla.; two grandsons, John (Melanie) Moore and Allen Moore; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Clay Moore; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2003, in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, Fla. Visitation with the family will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. — Harry T. Reid Funeral Home.
Douglas Warn
LAKE PARK — Douglas Warn, 85, of Lake Park, died on Friday, March 7, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born in Baltimore, Md., on April 17, 1917, he was the son of the late Bertram R. L. Warn and Alice Marie Strugnell Warn. Mr. Warn served with the U. S. Navy during WWII and continued his career as a merchant seaman and a tugboat captain on the Hudson River Mothball Fleet.
Survivors include his newphews, Roger Keyes of New City, NY and Timothy Warn of Peekskill, NY. He was preceded in death by a sister, Garnet Warn; a brother, Bertram S. Warn; and his childhood friends, Agnes and Bob Lobeck. Mr. Warn will be cremated with final rites and burial in New York state. — Carson McLane Funeral Home.

Jemmie Cason, 77, of Valdosta, died at South Georgia Medical Center on Saturday, March 8, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2003, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with burial at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
