Joan Fern Armstrong

QUITMAN — Joan Fern Armstrong, 90, of Valdosta, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Born in Lacie Creek, Ky., she was the daughter of Sam and Nancy Frances Rose Smith. She was a retired elementary school teacher for the public school system and a member of the Presbyterian church. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Herman Johnson of Valdosta; three grandchildren, Shannon (Buck III) Tison, Deidre Allison Johnson, Joseph McCarty Johnson; two great-grandchildren, David Tyler Tison, Janice Marie Johnson; and one brother, Sam (Jill) Smith of El Paso, Texas, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry McCarty Armstrong, and one grandchild, Major Johnson. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Mars Hill Cemetery in Acworth with the Rev. Donn Wright officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mary Lorene Coppage

CASSELBERRY, Fla. — Mary Lorene Coppage, 75, of Casselberry, and formerly of Hahira, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, in Apopka, Fla. She was born on Nov. 21, 1917, in Hahira. Mrs. Coppage was a sales clerk and a Baptist and was predeceased by her husband, Lewis A. Coppage. She is survived by five daughters, Mary Watson of Casselberry, Betty Richards of Jacksonville, Fla., Sara Martin of Pfafftown, N.C., Martha Berman of Atlanta and Louise Kirkland of Jacksonville; two sons, Paul Coppage of Dallas, Texas and John Coppage of Jacksonville; two brothers, Vonnie Clanton of Hahira and Jack Clanton of Tallahassee, Fla.; three sisters, Ila Garner of Labelle, Fla., Doris Giddens and Inez Garner of Hahira; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Martin McLane Funeral Home in Hahira with burial to follow in Friendship Cemetery. Johnny Lee House

VALDOSTA — Johnny Lee House, 48, passed away on Feb. 24, 2002, in Lake City, Fla. Mr. House resided at 703 College St. in Valdosta. He was born on June 25, 1954, in Stockton to the union of Willie James Speed and Susie Dell House. Johnny Lee House attended Lowndes County High School and upon completion, joined the U.S. Army where he received an honorable discharge. He attended Central Business College and Valdosta Technical College. He was employed by Atlanta Life Insurance Company as an agent until his illness. Johnny was a member of Love of God Temple where he attended until his illness. He leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Susie Dell Brown of Valdosta; stepfather, Douglas Griffin of Valdosta; one son, Johnny Jr. of Carrollton; three brothers, Henry E. Merritt Jr. of Killeen, Texas, Gary McQueen, Lake City, Fla., and Willie James Speed of Tallahassee, Fla.; four sisters; Mae Dell Merritt of Valdosta, Mary Francis Merritt of Tallahassee, Bonnie R. Walker of Orlando, Fla., and Carolyn Speed of Valdosta. He also leaves five aunts, Josephine Richardson of Naylor, Julia M. Robinson of Valdosta, Mae Bell Bibbins of Orlando, Barbara Ann Johnson of Tallahassee, and Mary Lee Speed, Orlando; three devoted cousins, Samuel Robinson of Cairo, Tommy Speed of Valdosta, and Joel Robinson; special friends, Keith Marshall of Valdosta and Dino Roberts of Valdosta. He also leaves a devoted nephew, Johnny E. Merritt of Valdosta; a niece, Angela Merritt of Valdosta; and a host of other cousins and friends. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Union Holiness Church. Elder Willie Fields is the pastor and the Rev. Natalie Thomas will officiate. ADEL — Pauline S. Revill, 79, of Adel, died on Feb. 28, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Adel after a short illness. She was born on Ja





n. 28, 1923, in Cook County to the late Ernest E. Surrency and the late Vandello Lasseter Surrency Bickford. She lived in Cook County all of her life. She was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ralph E. Revill of Adel; one son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Shirley Revill of Shalimar, Fla.; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Dwain Weldon of Adel; three grandsons, Dean and Paul Weldon of Adel, David Revill of New Orleans, La.; one half brother, Henry Bickford, Naples, Fla. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Sharon Revill; one sister, Willene Corbett; and one half sister, Janice McFry. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Antioch United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randy Mosley officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Church Cemetery. George Washington Robertson

MORVEN — George Washington Robertson, 58, of Morven, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Heard County on Sept. 21, 1943, to the late Ollie and Annie Ruth Robertson. Mr. Robertson is survived by his wife, Darlene Elliott Robertson of Morven; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and John Hand of LaGrange, Angie and John Holt of Moultrie; one son, Anthony Robertson and his friend, Joanna Milhollin of Morven; two stepchildren, Jamie and Selena; four grandchildren; three sisters, Elizabeth Langley, Ruth Patterson and Frances Commons, all of Carrolton; and two brothers. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Martin McLane Funeral Home in Hahira with burial in Campground Cemetery. Benny Ruth Adams Swink

LAKE PARK — Benny Ruth Adams Swink passed away peacefully at her home, Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002. She was born Dec. 29. 1922, in Hancock County, the daughter of James Benjamin and Cappie Burden Adams. She graduated from Sparta High School, Sparta, and Soule Business College in New Orleans, La. Mrs. Swink served the Lake Park Community and many people through her work as the city clerk of Lake Park from 1969-1981 and in operating a bank, insurance agency, grocery store and in later years, an income tax and accounting service. She was a member of the Lake Park Christian Church, Ocean Pond Fishing Club, the Lake Park Historical Society and the Georgia Sheriff’s Boys Ranch. Mrs. Swink is survived by daughters, Becky S. DalZotto and Georgia (Frank Q.) Smith; grandchildren, Sally Q. Smith, Sandy (Russ) Cole, and Benjamin DalZotto; nieces, Mary Jane Yorke and Robin (Rick) Earnest; nephew, Robert P. (Gina) Yorke; grandnieces, Robin (Jay) Moore, Becky Jane (Jody) Platt, Corrie Yorke; grandnephews, Jim (Jackie) Rodgers, Bucky Davis, Jay Pettigrew, Austin and Blair Yorke; great-grandniece and nephews, Autumn and Addison Platt, Will Moore and Cole Rodgers. Memorial services will be held at 11 am. today at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home. The Rev. Keith Sandlin and the Rev. Mickey Corbett will officiate. Mary Wiseman

ADEL — Mary B. Wiseman, 89, of Adel, died on Feb. 27, 2002, at Brooks County Hospital. She was born on July 18, 1912, in Adel to the late John Gordon and Martha Ola Parrish Bennett. She lived in Adel most of her life. She was a retired third grade teacher and member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John William Wiseman; one brother, Robert Bennett Sr., and one sister, Florence Bennett. Mrs. Wiseman is survived by nieces and nephews, Thad Wiseman Jr., John King Wiseman, Kathy Sirmans, Becky Connell, Wayland Wiseman, Shawdeen Cooper, Bobby Bennett Jr. and Joan Nicholson.
