C.W.O. Frederick E. Bell Sr.

LAWRENCEVILLE — C.W.O. Frederick E. Bell Sr., U.S.A.F. retired, of Lawrenceville reported to his Supreme Commander on March 26. 2003. Born in Utica, N.Y., on Sept. 5, 1919, to the late George P. and Martha F. Bell and formerly of Valdosta, Mr. Bell was retired with disability after a 27-year military career, which spanned World War II, Korean Police Action and the Vietnam Era. His military decorations included, Air Crew Member Wings, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force, Good Conduct Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal with Silver Knot, American Defense Medal, American Campaign Medal, Europe-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters, United Nations Service Medal, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. He was a Life Member of The Retired Officers Association and the Disabled American Veterans, and he belonged to the following organizations: The American Legion Post 13, Voiture Locale 711 Forty and Eight, Hasan Temple, Scottish Rite Valley, Utica, N.Y., Baron Steuben Masonic Lodge, Lee Center, N.Y., Loyal Order of the Moore, Rome, N.Y., National Past Chef De Gare Club, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, local Chapter 1044 of NARFE, and American Association of Retired Persons.

Mr. Bell was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Martha Marie Walker Bell. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Frederick E. III and Linda S. Bell of Lawrenceville, Terrence J. and Judy Bell of Circle Pines, Minn.; a daughter, Sandra L. Denton of Remerton; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary F. Bell of Deer Isle, Maine; nine nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with military honors are scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday, March 31 in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Claude Childers

SPARKS — Claude Childers, 81, Sparks, died March 26, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Adel after a long illness.

He was born on Nov. 21. 1921, in Hazard, Ky., to the late George Washington and Carrie Owens Childers. He lived in Sparks for the past 15 years. He was retired from Ford Motor Co., was a Marines WW II veteran and member of Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Lovett Childers, Sparks; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Debbie Childers, Raleigh, N.C., Thomas and Carol Childers, Manchester, N.H.; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Bill Laginess, Midland, Mich.; three stepdaughters, Carolyn Jahnke, Plano, Texas, Jerri Griffin, Atlanta, Kathy Stevens, Richmond, Va.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Dwight Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Church Cemetery. — Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home, Adel



Grace P. Gill

HAHIRA — Grace P. Gill, 89, of Hahira, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange.

She was born on April 30, 1913, in Meriwether County to Nathan and Orvella Fowler Pearson. She was retired from Goody Products in the Brush Department and was a member of Harris City Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Foster Gill, and sons, Charles Gill and Jimmy Harold Gill.

She is survived by three daughters, Venita McGraw of Woodbury, Everlyn Rice of Hahira, Gwen Gill of Warm Springs; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Harris City Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Harrington officiating and the Rev. Jimmy Bowden assisting. Burial will be in Meriwether Memory Gardens. — Smith-Steel-Meadows Funeral Homes, Manchester



Doris Almeda Williams Harris

VALDOSTA — Doris Almeda Williams Harris, 68, passed away on March 22, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center. Mrs. Harris was born on May 10, 1934, in Berrien County to the late Arthur Williams and Plaze Morgan Williams. She resided at 109 E. Hill Ave., Apt. 401. She was married to the late Eugene Harris on July 18, 1953.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mendell Harris; one sister, Judith Brown; two brothers, Albert and Otis Williams.

She leaves to mourn three daughters, Di’ann Hall (Ralph), Latrell Hickey (James), Laverne Miller (Leon); four sons, Charlie Harris (Dot), Calvin Harris, Aaron Harris (Elaine), Hansel (Connie) Harris; two stepsons, Joe Daniel (Shirley) and Eugene Harris (Deloris); five sisters, Yvonne Williams (Jasper), Rochelle Jackson (Billy), Mary Verdell (James), Jackie Thomas (Larry), Mamie Horne (Earl); two brothers, James Williams (Ida) and Larnell Williams; three sisters-in-law, Geraldine Berry, Mary Alice Harris and Louthina Tommlin; one brother-in-law, Willie Carl Harris; 30 grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 30 at the House of God Church and Elder Joyce Lewis will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. — Harrington Funeral Home



Larry David Mitchell Jackson

VALDOSTA — Larry David Mitchell Jackson, of 503 E. Gordon St., Valdosta, was born on April 23, 1952, to the late Della Jackson Mitchell and Elisha Emanuel. Larry was educated in the Valdosta City Public School System.

Larry was a well-known and greatly respected carpenter who was self-employed. Larry was united in holy matrimony to Cynthia Marie Newsome of Valdosta on Feb. 27, 1976. He was blessed to have fathered four children, one of which preceded him to the grave. Larry gave his life to Christ in 1995 in Brunswick. Larry left this life to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at the South Georgia Medical Center. He was 50 years old. He leaves to cherish his memories three children, Dexter Bernard (Kim) Mitchell, April Sabrina Mitchell of Valdosta, and Alfrieda Denise (Leonard) Perry of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Kayla Briana Mitchell, Dexter Bernard Mitchell II, Taylor Mackenzie Mitchell, Daniel Benjamin Mitchell, Raekwon Armon Mitchell, Tyler Foster Perry; three sisters, Pastor Mary Edwards of Miami, Fla., Dorothy Jean (Aaron) Askew and Gloria Emanuel of Valdosta; three brothers, Booker T. (Harriet) Wade of Miami, Fla., Ralph (Minnie) Mitchell Jr. and Eddie Lee (Gwendolyn) Emanuel Sr. of Valdosta; two former wives, Cynthia Marie Newsome and Anita Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., today, March 29 at New Life Missionary Baptist Church. Bishop Larry Manning Sr., pastor, and Pastor Dexter B. Mitchell will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. — Scott and Roberts Mortuary



Maggie McGee Moore

VALDOSTA — Maggie McGee Moore, of Valdosta, departed this life on March 22, 2003, at 1:46 p.m. at Kindred Hospital in North Florida. Maggie McGee Moore was born on Nov. 2, 1919, to the late Sam and Nettie Bethay McGee.

She was educated in Lowndes County and worked for 17 years as a custodian at Valdosta State University. She was a dedicated wife and a loving and caring mother.

Maggie married Albert D. Moore on Jan. 17, 1937, and 15 children were born from their union. After giving her life to Christ at an early age, Maggie became a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and after marriage, her membership moved to Galatia Baptist Church. She served as First Lady and president of the Home-Mission Missionary. She was a faithful and devoted servant of the minister wives committee in the South Georgia Association and Union Meeting until her health failed her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Albert D. Moore Sr.; a daughter, Evangelist Mariah M. Banks; a granddaughter, Kalitta Briana Moore; mother, Nettie Bethay McGee; father, Sam McGee; four sisters and two brothers.

She leaves to lament her homegoing 14 loving children; six daughters, Concello Moore Jones (the Rev. Eddie Jones) of Hahira, Marva L. Moore Carter (Dr. Lawrence Carter) of Tallahassee, Fla., Maudell Moore of Washington, D.C., Gloria J. Moore Miller (Lindell), of Columbus, Gaynell Moore Taylor of Columbus, Shirley Moore Everett (Charles), Valdosta; eight sons, Albert D. Moore Jr. of Valdosta, Robert L. Moore (Angelena) of Capitol Heights, Md., James E. Moore Sr. (Rosa) of Valdosta, Willie C. Moore (Audrey) of Far Rockaway, N.Y., Bobby J. Moore (Russel) of Valdosta, Joseph L. Moore of Columbus, Nathaniel Moore of Hahira, Bruce M. Moore (Lawanda) of Ray City; three sisters, Mary Lou Maxwell, Inez Wright, and Arvella Jackson, all of Valdosta; four brothers, the Rev. Odell McGee (Doris) of Valdosta, the Rev. Lawrence McGee (Doris) of Valdosta, the Rev. George McGee (Jimmy Lee) of Miami, Fla., and Henry McGee (Arletta) of Houston, Texas; 41 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; one special sister-in-law, Virginia B. Moore Lane (G.C.) of Hahira; one foster daughter, Paula Foust of Valdosta; two special caregivers, Rosemary and Catherine Neal of Columbus; and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in -law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, March 29 at the New Hope Baptist Church. The Rev. Aaron Hopkins is pastor and the Rev. Dr. B.R. Worthy will officiate. Burial will follow in Rocky Hill Cemetery. — Harrington Funeral Home

Anne “Dukie” Morris Knight, 88, Columbus, Miss., died Friday, March 28, 2003, at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carson McLane Funeral Home.

Samuel K. Spells, 82, of Valdosta, died on Friday, March 28, 2003, at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Spells are tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, March 31, 2003, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.



Melvin Williams, 46, of Valdosta, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. Final arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced later by the Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home of Quitman.
