Lillian Stewart Griffin
LAKE PARK– Services for Mrs. Lillian Stewart Griffin, 85, Lake Park, are 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home with the Rev. Eldridge Lyons and the Rev. Rutledge Courtney officiating. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery on Texas Street. Active pallbearers are Clifford Dasher, Thomas Ryan, Dick Salter, Fred Keadle, Frank Keith, and Snooks Green. Mrs. Stewart died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on April 3, 1917, in Thomas County, she was the daughter of the late Mote E. and the late Bessie Butler Stewart. She married Emmett Griffin in Jan. 1943, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 1989. She retired from Rose’s Department Store, having been a sales clerk in ready to wear clothes. She was a member of Royal Arcanum Insurance Society, Dawson Street Baptist Church, and had been attending Frances Lake Baptist Church in Lake Park. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and MaeBelle Griffin of Lake Park; two grandsons, Chuck Griffin and Steven Griffin, both of Lake Park; brother-in-law, Austin Griffin of Brunswick; several nieces and nephews including Margaret Trowell of Thomasville. She was preceded in death by her brother, Winston Stewart and sister, Aliease Trowell. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. this evening at Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home, Thomasville. Virginia Griner
VALDOSTA — Virginia Griner, 60, of Valdosta died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center after a sudden illness. She was born on April 26, 1942, in Dawson to the late Clemon and Belle Lee Walker and had lived in Valdosta since 1973. Mrs. Griner was a secretary with the Valdosta City School and an active member of Crossroads Baptist Church. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Exempler Chapter. Survivors include her husband, Charles Griner of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Mary Griner of Valdosta; sister and brother-in-law, Vera and J.T. Paul of Blairsville; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Loudell and J.T. Nix, Sara Frances and Irvin Dykes; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Foster and Doris Griner and Buie and Belinda Griner, all of Nashville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Daniel, the Rev. Ross Hudson and the Rev. J.T. Paul officiating. Burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Dawson. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. Lora Mae Peterson Ingram
HAHIRA — Mrs. Lora Mae Peterson Ingram, 82, of Hahira died Sept. 8, 2002, at Lake Haven Nursing Home. She was born on Aug. 3, 1920, in Hahira to the late Ben and Fannie Baker Peterson. She was a member of Bethel AME Church, Hahira, member of the Eastern Stars, Cecil Chapter, Secretary of Hahira Pallbearer Society, member of Independent Christian Aid Lodge No. 2, and member of Hahira Christmas Savings Club. Mrs. Lora Mae Ingram leaves to cherish her loving memories nine children, Louvenia (James) Owens of Cassville, Ga., Cora Camion of Hahira, Dan (Faith) Ingram of Orlando, Fla., Fannie (Eddie) McCormick of Valdosta, James (Maria) McCalister of Panama City, Fla., Earnest (Patricia) McCalister of Adel, Marshall (Kathy) Ingram of Hahira, Robert Curtis (Lizzie) Ingram of Savannah, and James Ingram of Winter Park, Fla.; one brother, Isaac (Marshall) Wims of Sumter, S.C.; three sisters, Flora Mae Passmore of Valdosta, Olivia Jackson of Savannah and Bernice Dexter of Orlando, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Norman Williams of Miami, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Nellie Williams of Gainesville, Fla.; 29 grandchildren; 32 great- grandchildren; four
great-great- grandchildren; also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at the Bethel AME Church, South Hall Street Hahira. Sally Hope Staier Shugar
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. — Sally Hope Staier Shugar, 75, of Loudonville, N.Y. passed from this Earth on Sept. 8, 2002. She was born on Oct. 29, 1926, in New York City to the late Julius C. and Beatrice Eisner Staier. She was a graduate of Bronxville High School and earned a bachelor of arts from Smith College, having studies abroad as an exchange student at the University of Zurich her junior year. She later earned a Master’s degree in education from the State University of New York at Albany. She wrote radio and television advertising copy on Madison Avenue in Manhattan and then for Capital Cities Broadcasting Corporation in Albany, following which she taught high school language: German, French, Spanish and Italian. She was a passionate opera aficionado, played the piano and wrote, directed and produced plays for B’nai B’rith and the National Council for Jewish Women. She was a member of Temple Israel in Albany, Hadassah, The Opera Guild and a former officer of B’nai B’rith. She will always be remembered for her conviviality, self-effacing sense of humor, keen intellect and as a wonderful wife and mother. Sally is survived by her husband of 46 years, Harold B. Shugar; her sons, Joel K. Shugar M.D. of St. George Island, Fla. and Daniel S. Shugar of San Bruno, Calif.; a brother, Henry Staier of Burlington, Vt.; step sisters, Arlette Belkin of Scarsdale, N.Y. and Jacqueline Rappaport of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Peter W. Shugar, David H. Shugar and Adam J. Shugar. Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany, N.Y. Burial followed in the Temple Israel Cemetery, Guilderland, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, N.Y. 12211. The period of mourning was observed at the Shugar residence on Wednesday, following the burial from 7-9 p.m. Thursday evening and at 10 a.m. today. — Levine Memorial Chapel, Albany, N.Y.

Lonzie McDaniel, 93, of Valdosta passed this life on Sept. 8, 2002, at the Holly Hill Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Silver Run Baptist Church and the Rev.
