Willard C. Stephenson Sr.

VALDOSTA — Willard C. Stephenson Sr., 85, of Valdosta, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born on Nov. 3, 1916, to the late Lee and Eva Stephenson and was a lifelong resident of Lowndes County. Mr. Stephenson was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the occupation of Japan. While in Japan, he played outfield for the Army Baseball Team. He was a retired insurance sales broker and an avid fisherman and gardener. Mr. Stephenson was a member of the Central Avenue Church of Christ and a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Beulah McLeod Stephenson. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Joyce and Don Lockey of Durham, N.C., Diane and Graham Fiveash, Marcia and J.B. Wilson, all of Valdosta; three sons and daughters-in-law, Willard C. “Buddy” Jr. and Laura Stephenson of Valdosta, Tommy and Joyce Stephenson of Albany and John and Lisa Stephenson of Valdosta; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Katherine Hafner of Ocala, Fla., Joyce Johnson of Thomasville, Virginia Parker of Panama City, Fla., Dorothy Charos of Valdosta; three brothers, Vernon Stephenson of Valdosta, Hugh Stephenson of Quitman and Leland Stephenson of Lake Park; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lankford Stephenson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Dorsett, John Klimko, J.C. McMullen and Don Lockey Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Fleming Bates (‘FB’) Williams

BARNEY — Fleming Bates (“FB”) Williams, 75, of Barney, passed away early Sunday morning, Jan. 27, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta after a brief illness. He was a lifelong resident of Brooks County, a veteran of World War II and was retired from Owens-Illinois. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Cook County. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Fleming Bates and Leila Spells Williams Sr., a sister, Minnie Hendrickson. Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Newbern Williams of Barney; two sons and daughters-in-law, Fleming and Helen Williams, Larry and Denise Williams, all of Barney; grandchildren, Brad and Kim Williams, Craig and Stacey Williams, Blake Williams, Brett Williams, all of Barney; great-grandchildren, Garrett Williams, Mason Williams, Colton Williams, Kelsie Williams and Kenzie Williams, all of Barney; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Sadie and Snooks Stephens, Eloise and Boots Griffin, all of Barney, Amanda and Jesse Webb of Milledgeville, Gloria Trego and Barbara Holliman, both of Valdosta, and Voncil Garland of Jacksonville, Fla.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Oweda Williams, Johnnie and Ruth Williams, and Tony and Gail Williams, all of Valdosta. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at New Life Baptist Church near Adel with burial following in Welcome Hill Cemetery in Brooks County. — Music Funeral Services of Valdosta



Clayton C. Daniel, 93, of Irwin County, died on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at Irwin County Hospital, Ocilla. Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church, Irwin County, with Elder Paul Thomas and Elder Mervin Paulk officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Irwin County. — Paulk Funeral Home of Ocilla



Edward Frank Long, 64, of Valdosta, died Sunday at South Georgia Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Statenville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. — Carson McLane Funeral Home
