Robert Trotter Anderson
VALDOSTA — Robert Trotter Anderson, 87, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at his residence after an eight year illness. He was born in Coal City, Ill. to the late Axel Frederick and Jessie Catherine Trotter Anderson. Mr. Anderson was a retired independent business owner and a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army and was awarded the Bronze Star during World War II. He was a Valdosta State University Blazer Basketball Booster, a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Elks Club.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Jacqueline K. Anderson of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Michael Berta of Coal City, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law, Jean and George Mason of Valdosta; four grandchildren and their spouses; Jason and Colleen Berta of Coal City, Ill.; Todd and Cara Berta of St. Louis, Mo.; Amy and Matthew Thompson of Valdosta; and Erik and Janna Mason of Hubert, N.C.; three great-grandchildren; Nicholas and Brant Berta, and Mason Thompson; and two nephews; Tommy Richards and Paul Graver. Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his: son, Todd Anderson; grandson, Thad M. Berta; and two sisters; Romona Lucas and Audry Graver.
Memorial services for Mr. Anderson will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2003 at the Park Avenue United Methodist Church with the Reverend Bill Thompson and Reverend Craig Rikard officiating. Billy E. Crosby
ADEL — Billy E. Crosby, 66, of Adel passed away Thursday, April 24, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Adel after a lengthy illness. He was born July 31, 1936 to the late E.M. “Buddy” and Ruby Clontz Crosby. Mr. Crosby served in the U.S. Army and had retired from construction work. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church and had lived in Adel all of his life.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne Ward Crosby; one son and daughter-in-law, Edward “Eddie” and Cindy Crosby of Adel; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Kirk McDaniel of Adel, Lisa and Randy Kendrick of Adel; one brother, Tommy Crosby; five sisters, Mary Griffin, Jean Hanks, Marlene Tillman, Sue Smith and Joan Ensley; five grandchildren, Michael Crosby, Heather Hinton, Eric McDaniel, Kris McDaniel and Jeremy Kendrick; three step grandchildren, Chris Kendrick, Michelle Kendrick and Zack Kendrick; four great-grandchildren, Austin Crosby, Taylor Crosby, Zack Hinton and Hannah McDaniel.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2003, at New Life Baptist Church with the Rev. Stanley Hendrick and the Rev. Roscoe Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn City Cemetery. Mr. Crosby will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services. Annie Joseph
VALDOSTA — Annie Joseph, 83, of Valdosta died Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on February 5, 1920 in Valdosta to the late George and Macrina Abood Joseph and was a Catholic.
Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Florence Joseph of Valdosta, a niece, Mary Ann Willis of Nashville, cousins, Leona Abood, Marie Beam, both of Valdosta and Florine (Sister Angela) Abood of Atlanta.
Graveside services will be held at 11am, Saturday, April 26, 2003 at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Father John O’Brien officiating. — Carson McLane Funeral Home.
Sarah Jean Luke
VALDOSTA — Sarah Jean Luke, 76, of Valdosta passed away Thursday, April 17, 2003 at Fellowship Home after a lengthy illness. She was born in Fort Myers, Florida and had lived in Lowndes County for the last 25 years. Mrs. Luke was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was awarded a lifetime membership with the Lowndes High School Tip-Off Club and was a member Disabled American Veterans. Her husband, Arlin Luke and daughter, Beverly Newton, preceded her in death.
Survivors Include her grandson, Kelly Newton, Garden City, Ga. great-aunt, Reba Nyen, Marietta, Ga. niece, Rebecca Christian, Fernandina Beach, Fla.; five step-children, Wesley and Gloria Luke, Twin Lakes, Ga., Marion Phelps, Hahira, Jan and Eddie Rowland, Valdosta, Cathy and Doug Childs, Decatur, Ala., Steven and Terri Luke, Suwannee, Ga.; nine step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren.

Vernon Manning
NASHVILLE — Vernon Manning, 59, of Nashville died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Berrien County Hospital.
He was born Nov. 7, 1943 in Thomas County to Ralph James and Lena Mae Story Manning. He was a sheet metal welder.
He is survived by one sister, Dorothy Lovett of Doerun; two brothers, Audley Manning, Quincy, Fla., Randolph Manning, Meadowbridge, W. Va. He is preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2003 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Colquitt County with the Rev. Frank Farmer officiating.

Dion Damon “Quiet Eagle” Price
VALDOSTA– Dion Damon “Quiet Eagle” Price, 36, of Valdosta, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. He was born on Feb. 24, 1967 in Valdosta to the late Bobby Aldean and Lomie Marilda Sapp Price. Dion was an Emergency Room Technician at South Georgia Medical Center, was a member of Forrest Park Church of Christ for the past 23 years, was a native American, a member of the Southeastern Cherokee Confederacy, a trainer for the Wildcat Football Team, a trainer for the Georgia Tigers, played for the Valdosta Wildcats, graduated from Valdosta High School in 1985. He will be missed by all of his family and friends.
Dion is survived by his wife, Mia Daughtry Price of Valdosta; two daughters, Amber and Tori Price of Lawton, Okla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Carissa and Greg Stone of Quitman; grandmother, Nellie Price of Quitman; grandfathers and grandmother, David and Edith Sapp of Madison, Fla. and Duncan Sapp of Quitman; one niece, Angel Stone of Quitman; one nephew, Scott Stone of Quitman; parents-in-law, Vernon and Marilyn Daughtry of Live Oak, Fla.; aunts and uncles, Curtis and Laquita Willingham of Dasher, Ann and Remer Highsmith of Savannah, Alvin and Jean Price of Savannah, Charles and Carolyn Price of Valdosta; great-aunts, Minnie Cone of Quitman, Ollie Price of Quitman; several cousins.

Mareese Jennings Sessoms
HOMERVILLE– Mareese Jennings Sessoms, 84, died Wednesday night, April 23, 2003, at her residence in Homerville, Ga. Born in Ware County on Jan. 17, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Ashley Jennings and Polly Woodham Jennings. Her husband, Frank S. Sessoms, who was killed in a highway accident in 1954, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Dotty and Jay Porter of Blackshear, Ga., and Kay and David Hinson of Homerville; her grandchildren Jason Bell and his wife Heather of Homerville, Frank Porter and his wife Jennifer of Austin, Texas, Kip Porter, currently serving in the United States Army Reserves in Afghanistan, Ashley Porter of Charlotte, N.C. and Maurie Hinson of Homerville; two great-grandchildren, Tison Reese Bell and Mauree Alice Porter, also survive her.

Gwendolyn Johnson, 51, passed this life April 19, 2003, after injuries received in an auto accident. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Fruitland, Fla., and burial to follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fruitland, Fla.
