THOMASVILLE — Wilfa Mae Stegall Arline, 76, of Thomasville died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Archbold Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born in St. Augustine, Fla., she was the daughter of Eliga Clifford and Myrtle Mae Yeomans Stegall. Mrs. Arline had been a resident of Thomasville since 1940, moving there from Minter City, Miss. She was a retired tax appraiser for Thomas County; a member of the Genealogy Assoc. of Thomas County, and a member of Dawson Street United Methodist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Carol (Sonny) Brown of Dixie, Ga.; one son, Jerry Clifton Arline of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; five grandchildren, Dr. J.T. Brown, Jr., Jake Clifton Brown, Jerry Arline, Jr., Emily Kuiken, Connie Muenich; two great- grandchildren, Emily Brown, Shawn Muenich; and one brother, Clark Stegall of Leesburg, Ga. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville, Ga. with the Rev. Carl Howard and the Rev. Ronnie Wills officiating. NASHVILLE — Catherine Campbell, 48, of Nashville died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on July 15, 1953, in Ashtabula Co., Ohio to Elsie McCafferty Weir and the late Athol Weir. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Campbell is survived by her husband, Charles E. Campbell of Nashville; two daughters, Roseann Smith of Ashtabula, Ohio, Candice Wiest of Bitburg, Germany; two sons, Donald Coryell of Nashville, David Coryell, Ashtabula, Ohio; seven grandchildren; mother, Elsie Weir of Ashtabula, Ohio; three sisters, Karen Weir, Linda Weir, both of Ashtabula, Ohio, Rose Silka, Greenville, S.C.; and one brother, Robert Weir of Ashtabula, Ohio. NASHVILLE — Carrie Castleberry, 24, of Nashville died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center due to injuries sustained in an auto accident in Cook County. She was born on May 6, 1978, in Tift County to James Ellis Lightsey and the late Mary Karen Byrd Lightsey. She was a homemaker; office manager for World Finance Co. in Valdosta and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Will Castleberry of Nashville; one daughter, Savannah Leigh Howell of Nashville; father and step mother, James and Emily Lightsey of Nashville; two sisters, Christy Hamilton Pattilo of Mansfield, April Hamilton of Monroe; two brothers, Kevin Lightsey of Orlando, Fla. and Kyle Lightsey of Nashville. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church of Ray City. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Virgil Parr, who died in 1998, and two brothers and two sisters. Andrew Hart
VALDOSTA — Mr. Andrew Hart was born on April 10, 1932, in Lowndes County. He was the eldest child of the late Ezekiel Hart, and Mae Lillie Perry Hart. On June 2, 2002, God called Deacon Hart home to take his rest. He received his education from the Lowndes County Public Schools. He was retired truck driver for various companies. He confessed Christ at an early age, and joined the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, where he attended faithfully, and worked diligently as a deacon until his health failed. On the evening of June 2, 2002, the angel of silence came into his room at 3:45 p.m. Andrew looked to the hills from which cometh his help. He leaves a legacy of love that will keep him alive in our hearts forever. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Margaret Hart; two sons, Willie A. Hart of Valdosta, and Ronald E. (Crystal) of Sumter S.C.; five daughters, Gloria J. (Wallace) Crawford, Ada M. (Luther) Washington, and Yvonnie (Lewis) Mitchell, Margaret D. (Greg) Red, and Tammie R. Hart, all of Valdosta; 22 grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; two brothers, David (Luneal) Hart, and Benjamin Hart of Valdosta; three sisters, Doreatha (the Rev. VALDOSTA — Mrs. Luella “Murl” Jones, 88, of Valdosta passed away June 4, 2002, at Lakehaven Nursing Home. Mrs. Jones was born on June 25, 1913, in Valdosta to the late Will Corbett and the late Willie Mae Knight Sturgis. She attended school in the Valdosta School system. She was a member of St. Paul AME Church and attended regularly until her health failed. She was well known and liked by everyone she encountered, and will be missed in the community. NASHVILLE — Beatrice McGill, 78, of Nashville died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the residence of her daughter in Hahira. She was born on Oct. 16, 1923, in Cook County to Doc and Maude Griffis Sumner. She was a homemaker and retired nurse’s aide; and member of Ray City Freewill Holiness Church. she was the widow of Lawton H. McGill who died in 1986. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Ann Miley of Hahira, Doris Stone of Valdosta; two sons, James H. “Buddy” McGill of Adel, Steve McGill, Nashville; four grandsons; one granddaughter; one great- granddaughter; one sister, Betty Jean Bright, Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Robert Sumner of Omega, W.T. Sumner of Lenox; special caregivers, Ruby Baker and Sheila Edwards and the Alzheimer’s Day Care personnel in Valdosta. She was preceded in death by a son, Dwight McGill, who died in 2001. SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — Mrs. Irene Durham Mock, 86, of Simi Valley, Calif., formerly of Adel, died June 2, 2002, at Simi Valley Adventist Hospital after a short illness. She was born on Oct. 4, 1915, in Bainbridge, Ga. to the late William John Henry and Rossie Eliza Justice Durham. She had lived in Adel before moving to Calif. in 1996. She was a homemaker, member of the United Daughters of Confederacy and member of Salem Primitive Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Peter Mock. She is survived by two daughters, Judith Faye Mock of Adel, Joyce Kay Lacey, of Quenemo, Kan.; four grandchildren, Robert Clifton and Naomi Mock of Emporia, Kan., Jonathan Byron Mock, Adel, Cynthia and Phillip McGee, Simi Valley, Calif., April and Juan Estrada, Joliet, Ill.; and seven great- grandchildren. Betty Owens
VALDOSTA — Betty Owens, 89, of Valdosta died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center, Frances Elizabeth Hitch was born on Jan. 15, 1913, in Ch’onch’on, South Korea to the late Rev. James W. and Reubie Lilly Hitch, who were serving as missionaries. She visited the United States on several occasions before returning in 1927, to finish high school in Savannah, Ga. After graduating from Wesleyan College in 1934, she taught in Shellman and Waycross, Ga. She married Dr. Bennett Graham Owens of Valdosta on May 20, 1937, and had three sons, Bennett, Jimmy and Joe. Always an active member of her church, she and Dr. Owens hosted “afterglows” and prayer breakfasts for VSC students and prayer breakfasts for Moody Air Force Base pilots throughout the 1960s and 1970s. At the time of her death, she was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church. Mrs. Owens a woman of faith, practiced daily what she taught others about God’s Word and their relationship with Christ. A true prayer warrior and intercessor, her life was a witness and testimony for others to model. Hours before her death, she continued to pray and glorify her Lord and Savior, asking him to be real in the lives of others. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dr. Bennett G. and Ann Owens of Fayetteville, N.C., James H. and Kathie Owens of Valdosta and Joseph H. VALDOSTA — Mr. Charles E. Williams, 64, of Valdosta passed away June 1, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center. Charles E. Williams was born on Sept. 18, 1937, in Adel to Lucious L. Williams and Bonnie B. Williams. His father preceded him in death. He received his GED and Adult Education in Valdosta. He attended church services at the Church of God Tabernacle True Holiness in Miami, Fla. and Valdosta. He worked 17 years in Miami, Fla. and also was employed in Valdosta at the Fellowship Nursing Home until his illness. He was well known and liked by everyone he encountered, and will be missed in the community, especially by all the children. He leaves to mourn his passing, a devoted mother, Bonnie B.
