Mack Edward Harper
WEST BERRIEN COMMUNITY — Mack Edward Harper, 70, of the West Berrien Community died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at his residence. Born in Berrien County on Sept. 18, 1931, to the late John E. Harper and Flora Belle McMillan, Mr. Harper was a retired farmer and member of Oakey Grove Primitive Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Geneva Browning Harper of the West Berrien Community; one daughter, Elaine Wood of Lexington, S.C.; two sons, Darrell and Susan Harper and Chris and Theresa Harper, all of the West Berrien Community; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Ellendor Harper, Yvonne Harper, Johnnie Fife, and Elma Barber; and by a grandson, John David Wood, who died in 1995. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Elder Charles Tyson and the Rev. Ken Potts officiating. Burial will follow in Oakey Grove Cemetery. Visitation is today after 2 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. — Lovein Funeral Home, Nashville.
Maude Crosby Hulett
BARNEY — Maude Crosby Hulett, 76, of Barney, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at the Presbyterian Home after a lengthy illness. Born in Ft. White, Fla., she was the daughter of Warren and Edie Dyess Crosby. She was a retired dietician from the Brooks County High School and a member of Morrison Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Lynn (Kurt) Childers of Barney; four sons, Quinton (Beth) Blair of Pavo, Stan Hulett of Barney, Ray (Cynthia) Hulett of Barney, and Sam (Teresa) Hulett of Barney; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Coye hall of Jennings, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Hulett, and a daughter, Sally Jane Hulett. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Morrison Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Slaven officiating. Burial will follow in Morrison Church Cemetery. Johnnie M. Kinchen
VALDOSTA — Johnnie M. Kinchen was born in Unadilla on Dec. 2, 1915, to the late Robert Kinchen and Olrie Minnie Brown. He was married to the late Gussie Kinchen and from this union 12 children were born. Eight of those survive to abide in loving memories of their father. At an early age, he accepted Christ as Lord and Savior and was a member of Greater Saint James Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years. He later joined the Macedonia First Baptist Church where he was a faithful member until his death. Johnnie Kinchen was a prosperous man. In his early days, he owned the neighborhood soda shop and restaurant called the Southside Tea Room, later converted to the Southside Lunch Room. He later managed a baseball team called the Trojans. He retired from Union Camp. Mr. Kinchen was acknowledged by The Valdosta Daily Times in 1988 for being a faithful fan of the Valdosta High Football team because he rarely missed a game. Mr. Johnnie was a self-taught carpenter and was always busy building and making repairs for neighbors all over the southside of Valdosta. In his free time, he enjoyed baking Ma’s Sweet Potato Pies and even filled orders for many people in the neighborhood. He was a proud family man who could always be heard mentioning the number of grandchildren he had. He was blessed to see five generations of family members. On Tuesday, June 25, 2002, he was called to his heavenly home. Mr. Kinchen is survived by three daughters, Elouise Howell (Doll) and Ernestine Stokes (Stina) of Valdosta and Elnora Kinchen (Shang) of Stockbridge; five sons, Johnnie (Junior) of Fitzpatrick, Ala., Robert and Willie (Sonny) of Baltimore, Md., and Raymond (Ray) and Norvell of Valdosta; three daugthers-in-law, Kathy and Marie of Valdosta and Helen of Fitzpatrick, Ala.; one sister, Lennie B. Collier; one brother, Joe Kinchen; approximately 125 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of loving and carin
g nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Macedonia First Baptist Church with Pastor Skylyn W. Hagins officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. — Scott and Roberts Mortuary.
Carrie Mae Lissimore
VALDOSTA — Carrie Mae Lissimore departed this life on Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at the South Georgia Medical Center. She fought a good fight and kept the faith throughout her illness. She was the third child born to the late Prof. William Henry Lissimore, II, and the late Mrs. Caroline Chandler Lissimore. She was born on Feb. 6, 1921, in Valdosta. She attended public schools in Valdosta and later graduated from Morris Brown College in Atlanta. She taught at Dasher High School, Pinevale High, Valdosta High, and Leila Ellis. At an early age, she joined St. Paul A.M.E. Church, where she served as president of the Chancellor Choir and the Carrie Lissimore Missionary Society, which was named after her grandmother. She was affiliated with the Georgia State Teacher’s Retirement Organization; Georgia State Association of the Elks, where she served as state directress of education; Kelly Rose Temple 1005 in Thomasville; the Morris Brown Alumni Association; and the Crescendos Social Club. She is survived by a devoted nephew, Mr. Robert Mickens of Valdosta; a niece, Mrs. Yvonne Mickens Brown (Obbie) of Los Angeles, Calif.; four grand nieces, Renee Y. Brown, Regina V. Harden (Everett), Monica Brown, and Monique Brown; three great-grand nephews, Bret Puttman, Everett Harden, Ryan Harden; one great-grand niece, Elizabeth Harden; one aunt, Kay Lissimore of Macon; one goddaughter, Vanessa Talicia Burgman of Valdosta; one godson, Verlon L. Ward, Sr. of Miramar, Fla.; and cousins of Valdosta, Adel, Waycross, and Michigan. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at 3 p.m. at St. Paul A.M.E. Church with the Rev. David Lee Raines, 49, resided 4287 Burgman Lane, passed this life on June 26, 2002, at the South Georgia Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at 3 p.m. at the Mt.
