Venetha Brock

SPARKS — Miss Venetha Brock, 93, of Sparks, died Oct. 14, 2001, at Tift Healthcare Nursing Home in Tifton. She was born Jan. 2, 1908, in Grady County to the late Charlie Brock and Pearl Harrell Brock Ellington. She lived in Cook County since 1970 where she was a homemaker and a member of Sparks Baptist Church. She is survived by two nephews, Charles T. Perkins of Richmond, Vir, and Rusty Lee Womble of Pittsboro, N.C; and one cousin, Edwel Harrell of Tifton. Visitation will be tonight from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at the Sparks City Cemetery with the Rev. Grady Jones officiating. — Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home.



Carl ‘Cobby’ Collins

SUMTER, S.C. — Carl “Cobby” Collins, 66, of Sumter, S.C., died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at Mariner Health Care East in Sumter. He was born May 5, 1935, in Berrien County, to the late Early Collins and Alda Mae Fender. He was a mechanic and horse trainer, an Army veteran, and a member of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Scott Collins, one grandson, Shawn Austin Collins, and one sister, Aretha Giddens. He is survived by two daughters, Sherry Crews of Nashville, and Tracy Manley, of Gaffney, S.C.; two sons, Jerry Collins of New Port Richey, Fla., and Steve Collins of Gaffney, S.C.; two sisters, Melmarie Watson of Lakeland and Ina Ruth Swanson of Nashville; one brother, Wendell Collins of Starke, Fla.; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Poplar Springs Cemetery with the Rev. Hansel Pascal officiating. Visitation will be tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. — Lovein Funeral Home.



Sylvester ‘Junior’ Corbitt

FARGO — Mr. Sylvester “Junior” Corbitt, 72, passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, in the Chrestwood Nursing Home, Valdosta, following an extended illness. A native of Ware County, he had lived in Clinch County most of his life. He was a retired pulp woodier and attended the Fargo Church of God. He was the son of the late Sylvester and Willie Mae O’Berry Corbitt Sr., and widower of Nina Corbitt. Survivors are one daughter, Charlotte Portillao, Labelle, Fla.; one brother, Lankford Corbitt, Fargo; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several other relatives. Funeral services for Mr. Corbitt will be held Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Fargo Church of God. Burial will follow in the Fargo Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Corbitt will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with visitation after 5 p.m. Mr. Corbitt will be carried to the church one hour prior to the services. — Roundtree Funeral Home.



William Virgil ‘Bill’ Powell Jr.

William Virgil ‘Bill’ Powell Jr., 67, of Adel, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001 at Memorial Hospital of Adel. He was born March 14, 1934, to the late William Virgil and Lettye Allen Powell. He was retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections, and had been a deacon of the Open Door Missionary Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran who had served in Korea. He is survived by his wife, Mary Sutton Powell, Adel; a daughter and son-in-law, Paige and Kevin Carter of Adel; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Janice Powell of Adel; a sister, Berna Smith of Jacksonville; five grandsons, Ryan Vickers, Kyle Vickers, Dustin Powell, Tyler Powell and Stephen Powell; one granddaughter, Courtney Carter; and one grandson, Tristan Vickers. Services will be held today at 4 p.m. at the Open Door Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Gary James and Rev. Clarence Luke, ministers. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. — Lovein Funeral Home, Nashville.
