William Armon Price Sr.
HOMERVILLE — William Armon Price Sr., 49, of Homerville, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
A native of Tift County, he had lived in Clinch County the last 17 years. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a truck driver for the Waste Management in Albany. He was the son of the late Warren Price and Grace Alba Tomberlin Price of Albany. A brother, Franklin Dell Price, preceded him in death.
Survivors other than his mother are his son, William “Will” Armon Price Jr. of Homerville; five sisters, Wanda Carr of Albany, Meg Harrison of Albany, Gail Bowen of Prattville, Ala., Brenda O’Berry of Waycross and Glenda Thornton of Hoboken; four brothers, Warren Price Jr. of Waycross, Tommy Price, R.W. Price and Glen Price, all of Albany; ex-wife, Verna Keller; brother-in-law, Charlie Stewart; two sisters-in-law, Sue Cox and Gail Manac; mother-in-law, Mary Stewart James; special friends were Brenda Bryant and Micheal Mercer, all of Homerville.
Services for Mr. Price will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, May 30 at the Argyle Church of God in Argyle. Burial will be in Pine Forest Cemetery.
Mr. Price will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today with visitation after 3 p.m. Mr. Price will be carried to the church one hour prior to the services. — Roundtree Funeral Home
William Russell Roberts
HAHIRA — William Russell Roberts, 84, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born in Cook County, Ga., on March 31, 1919, to the late Sidney Burton and Betty Flowers Roberts. Mr. Roberts was a ship fitter, a veteran and a member of the Hahira Church of God.
He is survived by his cousins, Evelyn Sirmans, Janet Leadbeter, Mickey, Patricia, Gabe and Zane Sirmans, all of Hahira, Tyrone and Pam Sirmans of Dyersburg, Tenn., Nichole and Russ Shepard of Dyersburg; nephews, Robert Lancaster of St. Augustine, Fla., and Michael Lancaster of Atlanta.
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, May 30 at 10 a.m. in Friendship Cemetery with the Rev. Lynn Hurley officiating. — Martin McLane Funeral Home
William Marcus ‘Red’ Vandiviere
LAKELAND — William Marcus “Red” Vandiviere, 73, of Lakeland, died at South Georgia Medical Center on Tuesday, May 27, 2003, following a brief illness. Mr. Vandiviere was born on Sept. 8, 1929, in Worth County. He grew up in Fitzgerald and was a member of the 1948 State Football Championship Team, the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricanes. Through the years, he maintained his love of sports and was an avid Washington Redskin and Atlanta Braves fan. In 1952, he married Billie Greer. In 1957, they moved to Lakeland, where they opened the Western Auto Store. Together, as owners of the store, they served the people of this area until their retirement in 1985. After Billie’s death, he married Joyce Keene. Joyce and Red had 11 special years together. Red was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving his country in the Signal Corp during the Korean Conflict. Before retiring he was active in the Lakeland Merchant’s Association. He was also chairman of the Industrial Authority and served on various community committees including the Chairman of Lanier County Democratic Party. He was a member of Lakeland United Methodist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, W.M. and Fannie Vandiviere; two sisters, Alma McClendon and Edna Luke.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce K. Vandiviere, Lakeland; stepdaughter, Judy Bridges and her family of Valdosta; three stepsons, Richard Keene, Homerville, Lark Keene, Adel, Buford Keene and their families, Jacksonville, Fla.; special nephew, Larry Luke and his family, Lakeland; also surviving are sisters, Johnnie McDonald, Decatur, Julia Hutchinson, Adel, Jewell Okes and their families, Douglas.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 30 at the Lakeland United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The Rev. Ron Smith will officiate. Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. today with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. today. — Music Funeral Services
