Aileen Bazzill
VALDOSTA — Aileen Bazzill, 76, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, Mar. 13, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center after a sudden illness. She was formerly of St. Louis, Mo., and had lived in Valdosta for the past seven years. She was born on Aug. 5, 1926, in McConnell, W.Va., to the late Guy and Florence Elizabeth Stowers Holt. She was a homemaker and a member of the Full Gospel Church.
Mrs. Bazzill is survived by her husband, Jack Bazzill of Valdosta; three daughters and a son-in-law, Dortha Smith, Valdosta, Martha McDaniels, Benton, Ky., Catherine and Steven Lawrence of Naperville, Ill., and Michelle Barnes of DeSoto, Mo.; her son and daughter-in-law, Jack Jr. and Danette Bazzill of St. Louis, Mo; her brothers, Ralph Holt of Logan W.Va., and Arthur Holt of Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Florence and Alonzo Plumley, and her sister, Ida Mae Adkins.

Velma Cornelia Godwin
QUITMAN — Velma Cornelia Godwin, 77, of Quitman, died Saturday, March 15, 2003 at Brooks County Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Brooks County, she was the daughter of Rubin and Blanche Simpson Mitchell. She was a retired seamstress for Weeks Textile, a member of the Forever Young Club, a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class and a member of Quitman First Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Lawana (Jack) Elliott of Barney, Edwina (Jay) Simpson of Dixie; two sons; Maurice (Betty Jean) Godwin of Port St. Joe, Fla., Wayne (Beth) Godwin of LaGrange; nine grandchildren, April Cook, Mandy Godwin Nolen, Mark Godwin, Scott Godwin, Ben Elliott, Taylor Elliott, Matt Simpson, Brittany Simpson, McKenzie Simpson; 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Louise Hilton of Lake Wales, Fla., Estelle Thornhill of Barwick, Dorothy Williams of Barney, Rosalyn LaBove of Barney; and one brother, R.J. Mitchell of Quitman. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Godwin, a granddaughter, Nancy Beth Godwin and a sister, Ola Lee Jones.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 17, 2003, at 3 p.m. at the Quitman First Baptist Church with Rev. Loren Hildebrant officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends at Mrs. Godwin’s home.

Henry William ‘Billy’ Peeples Jr.
VALDOSTA — Henry William “Billy” Peeples Jr., 82, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, Mar. 15, 2003, at his home. Born in Valdosta on July 5, 1920, to the late Henry William Peeples Sr. and Audrey Bray Peeples, he was a graduate of Valdosta High School and Emory University, where he joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Following the war, he returned to Valdosta as an employee of the J.N. Bray Company, where he worked from 1946 until his death. He served his community faithfully in numerous positions over the years. He was particularly proud of his lengthy service to the Salvation Army and to First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Camille Colquitt Peeples of Valdosta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Henry William “Bill” Peeples and Janine Burris Peeples, and John C. Peeples and Jane L. Peeples, all of Valdosta; a brother, John N. Peeples of Valdosta; and a sister, Clare P. Sheffield of Longmont, Colo. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Ben Peeples, Mary Peeples and Alexandra Peeples, all of Valdosta, and two nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Peeples will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2003, at First United Methodist Church. Dr. Charles Adams will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, Hospice of South Georgia, or the Salvation Army. — Carson McLane Funeral Home.
Mrs. Doma Allen Thomas
LAKELAND, Fla. — Mrs. Doma Allen Thomas, 92, of Lakeland, Fla., died Friday at Highlands Lake Center of cancer.
Mrs. Thomas, a native of Haylow, was born on April 21, 1910. She moved to Lakeland from Wildwood, Fla., in 1984. She had been a beautician and owner-operator of LaRhyne Beauty Shop in Valdosta. She was a member of the Lake Wire Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.R. Thomas.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Betty Thomas of Auburndale, Fla., and Ronnie and Verna Thomas of Lakeland, Fla.; a daughter, Dee Ann Anderson, Lakeland, Fla.; and a sister, Mildred Allen Powell of Valdosta; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Lakeland Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lakeland Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery in Wildwood, Fla. — Lakeland Funeral Home, Lakeland, Fla.
