Julian Q. Copeland Sr.

DASHER — Julian Q. Copeland Sr., 86, of Dasher, died on Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Copeland was born in Lowndes County to the late John Virgil and Lilla Quaterman Touchton Copeland. He was a member of Airport Church of Christ and was a retired farmer and gristmill operator. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Howard Boyette Jr.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Julian “Jubie” and Carol Copeland, Charlie and Mary Ann Copeland, all of Dasher. Also surviving are six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sarah Copeland of Plant City, Fla., and two brothers, R.A. “Bob” Copeland of Dasher, Lowell Griffin Copeland of Temple Terrace, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Copeland; a daughter, Gloria Elsie Copeland; and three brothers, J.V. Copeland Jr., Darrel Copeland and Prewitte Copeland. Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday at 3 p.m. in Dasher Cemetery. Keith Olbricht, and David Nelson will officiate. The family will receive friends at Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta on Sunday from 7 until 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Georgia Christian School or Hospice of South Georgia. — Carson McLane Funeral Home



Betty Jean Jarvis

QUITMAN — Betty Jean Jarvis, 67, of Quitman, passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center following a short illness. Mrs. Jarvis was born in Colquitt County and was a homemaker and a member and a member of the Church of Nazarene. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Virgil Jarvis. She is survived by two sons, Billy V. (Donna) Jarvis, Quitman, Johnny Wade (Laurie) Jarvis, Valdosta; two sisters, Mildred Newsome, Quitman, Sybil Griffin, Hahira; three brothers, Luthur Carl Carney, O.G. Carney and John Raymond Carney, all of Quitman. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Toni Jarvis, Matt Jarvis and Kelly Jarvis; and one great-grandchild, Mackenzie Jarvis. Graveside services for Mrs. Jarvis will be held today at 3 p.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Dillard Ensley officiating. Maxwell-Miller Funeral Home



Don P. Nolan

Don P. Nolan, 62, was a resident of Valdosta for approximately three to four years. He expired on Sept. 26, 2002 at approximately 12:30 a.m. resulting from injuries while occupying his motorcycle. Per the Police Department and witnesses at the scene, the automobile operator was driving on the wrong side of the road and struck Mr. Nolan’s motorcycle head-on on June 25, 2002, at approximately 6:18 p.m. This tragic accident occurred approximately one block from Mr. Nolan’s home. Charges are pending against the driver of the automobile. Mr. Nolan, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, worked in the magazine industry. In 1970, he resided in Marietta and Buford. Preceded in death by his son, Don P. Nolan Jr., he is survived by three daughters, Donna Lynn Martin of Buford, Rose Marie Weaver, Buford, and Shannon Hope Nolan of Flowery Branch; brother, Chris of Alaska; three sisters, Nikki of Bakersfield, Calif., Kaye of San Jose, Calif., and Kim of Tegacay, S.C.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mr. Nolan will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 30 at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Peachtree Memorial Park. Josephine Allen Dutton, 96, of Valdosta, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, in Spokane, Wash. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carson McLane Funeral Home.
