Pioneering black businessman, elected leader dies

VALDOSTA — Claydon Barron was only 59 when he died in his sleep Monday morning, but he left a legacy as a pillar of the Valdosta community.

For those who knew him best, he will be dearly missed and remembered mostly for his outgoing personality and his commitment to helping others.

Born and reared at 315 South St. in Valdosta, Barron’s life touched many people.
