LOWNDES COUNTY — Colorful slides, water cannons, and bungee seats are all a part of the Stone Creek Golf Community’s newest amenity.
The mini water park for children ages one to 10 is an added feature to the community’s pool area.
“We are focusing on amenities and are always looking for ways to add on,” said Tim Tillman, general manager of the golf course. “We are the first golf course community in the country to have these particular structures.”
The structures, imported from Canada, are made of PVC pipe to withstand corrosion from the chlorine. The beachfront entry pool is a foot deep, making it safe for toddlers and older children.
Tillman said the club keeps a lifeguard in the pool at all times, but also encourages parents to stay with their children.
The $250,000 addition opened a few weeks ago, just in time for the summer months. Running off well water, the various sprinklers and waterworks shoot 800 gallons per minute into the air and the pool.
The largest structure is the aqua deck, with two slides and a climb-to, with a platform at the top. Water cannons on the deck are positioned toward the water cannons mounted in the pool, allowing children to have interactive fights.
A special baby bungee, with four seats on a carousel, allows infants and the smallest of toddlers to also have a water experience, according to Tillman.
There is also an aqua dome, with spouts shooting water which toddlers can crawl on, and an aqua spiral, large enough for children and adults to walk under for a soaking experience.
Tillman said residents and non-residents alike can buy memberships, but must first be members of the golf course. Memberships are $160 per month with a joining fee for the course, while the swimming area is an add-on for an additional $150 per year.
Stone Creek, a gated community, offers other recreational opportunities, including fishing and tennis.
