Valdosta police have obtained warrants to arrest the father of the child who was killed in an accident last week.

Destiny Crumitie, 2, was in the roadway when her father, Tory Carl House, 23, struck her while driving a 1997 Dodge Intrepid, police reported.

House did not see the child as he was leaving the residence Wednesday, March 30, police reports say.

Police spokesman Capt. Brian Childress, Valdosta Police Department, said police had obtained arrest warrants on charges of vehicular homicide and driving on a suspended license.

“Mr. House was operating a vehicle with a suspended license, which he shouldn’t have been operating in the first place,” Childress said.

Destiny’s uncle Courtney Johnson said the family is living “day to day.”

“I can’t say (the parents) are getting any better because I don’t know how they feel,” Johnson said. “Destiny was a ray of sunlight that everybody could see. She always kept smiling. She was the best child I’ve ever known.”

Johnson described Destiny as obedient and friendly, someone who “got along with other kids.”

“She was a big part of the family,” he said.

A memorial service may be held the later part of this week, Johnson said.
