Five Points liquor store becomes fine wine shop

The well-known liquor store at Five Points changed ownership in May 2004 and has since been expanded and renovated to ultimately become Five Points Fine Wine and Spirits.

Owners Massimo Pistelli, Ed Nargi and Tom Fazekas were confident in their decision to purchase the store that was at a great location with an established clientele. Their “long-standing love affair with wine” led to their decision to increase and improve the wine inventory.

To open up the crowded store and to make room for new products, the office space next to the store was developed into a wine area leaving the initial space open for existing inventory. The $120,000 renovation eliminated walls, windows and divisions, replaced floors, and made general improvements to the store.

They also added a $30,000 racking system from Wine Innovators in Ohio that ensures wine is stored at the proper angle and temperature.

Pistelli, Nargi and Fazekas used their 80 years of combined knowledge and experience when selecting new products. The inventory now includes exceptional, high and low end wines from a variety of countries including Australia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Chile, Spain, South Africa and many places in the United States.

The public has already been responsive to the variety of unique, high quality wines such as Opus One, Penfolds Grange and Silver Oak. Wine experts and novices, with the help of store manager and expert wine-pairer Fazekas, will enjoy selecting from the largest stock of wine around.

Owners of Five Points Fine Wine and Spirits plan to continue increasing their wine inventory, bringing in new items usually reserved for larger cities like Atlanta.
