State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond announced that the Georgia Department of Labor will provide $24,000 for creation of 20 summer jobs for youth in the South Georgia area.

The funds are part of $1 million that the labor department will provide statewide for the creation of summer jobs for youth. In its third year, the initiative, which is in partnership with the states 20 Workforce Investment Boards, will provide jobs for 835 youth, most of whom already are on waiting lists across the state.

Each youth will typically work 32 hours per week for six weeks. They will earn $5.15 per hour. A wide variety of jobs in both the public and private sectors will be available for youth 14 through 21.

Summer jobs provide young people with an opportunity to gain valuable insights and work experience, enhancing their chances of long-term success in the workplace.

Youth interested in applying for one of these summer jobs may call 333-5277.
