VALDOSTA — Theatre Guild Valdosta has sold more than 220 tickets for its one-night-only, dinner-theatre performance of “Driving Miss Daisy” to benefit renovations of the organization’s home at The Dosta Playhouse.

In addition to the $50-per-seat-dinner-theatre tickets, the Guild expects to have a few show-only tickets available for $25 Thursday night, according to organizers.

Though the show benefits Theatre Guild’s Dosta Playhouse, “Driving Miss Daisy” plays on the stage of Hannah’s On The Tracks, King of the Road, 1403 N. St. Augustine Road. Prior to the performance, the 1956 Cadillac Fleetwood used in the movie version of “Driving Miss Daisy” will be on display in the King of the Road parking lot. The car, which is owned by Wayne Hadden, Cairo, is also scheduled to be on public display today and Wednesday in the lot of Colonial Mall Valdosta, says Jack Pruden, the show’s producer.

While the movie starred Jessica Tandy, Morgan Freeman and Dan Akroyd in the story’s principal roles, Theatre Guild Valdosta’s “Driving Miss Daisy” features well-known local talents Joanne Griner as Daisy Wertham, Dr. John Gaston as Hoke Colburn, and and Robert Hatton as Miss Daisy’s son, Boolie. Theatre Guild’s Dr. Mary Helen Watson directs.

Organizers have noted that Theatre Guild’s regular-season performances take care of The Dosta Playhouse’s regular operating expenses but are not sufficient in financing other projects. The Guild and the Theatre Guild Foundation plan using funds from this benefit show to upgrade the theatre’s fire-protection systems and renovate a second-floor space into an extra rehearsal hall.

Theatre Guild Valdosta’s “Driving Miss Daisy” opens with a 6:30 p.m. social, 7 p.m. dinner, and 8 p.m. showtime, Thursday, Hannah’s On The Tracks, King of the Road, 1403 N. St. Augustine Road. Dinner and show ticket: $50; show ticket: $25. Reservations, more information: Call 24-STAGE.
